No two people learn the same way, at the same pace. That’s where you come in. As a Clinical Educator, you will not only be the face of orientation and training for your facility and team, but you will also use your experience and expertise to develop each individual’s skills and abilities throughout their time in the Sterile Processing Department.

 

Must be able to be a subject matter expert on assigned competencies for Customer Account. Employee is expected to take proactive steps in understanding and resolving gaps in employees’ competencies and resolving business problems. This position is crucial to the success of a hospitals SPD department. Failure to successfully complete their job can lead to patient health issues, Joint Commissions concerns, and large fines/processes assigned to the Customer in cases where employees are not trained on how to perform their job duties. Employee must be able to travel across the US and pass the needed hospital background and medical standards for credentialing purposes.

 

The Clinical Educator I – Travel ensures that Sterile Processing staff, both internal and external to STERIS, are properly trained and operating within the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to HSPA, CBSPD, AORN, The Joint Commission, FDA, DNV,CDC, OSHA, AAMI and those of STERIS and its customer facilities. Performs various educational duties under supervision and guidance from the Clinical Education Manager and/or onsite operations leadership.  Potential to support and work alongside all instrument processing solutions to include but not limited to continuous improvement, off site reprocessing centers and/or outsourced engagements. Travel positions require 75% or more domestic travel commitment.  

Duties

  • Design and implement training plans based on the priorities of your facility and staff members
  • Lead multi-week training programs for all new Sterile Processing employees at your facility
  • Document and review training efforts for compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Identify employee knowledge gaps at your assigned facility and create an ongoing development plan for all members of the Sterile Processing team
  • Build continuing education programs with a focus on new products and procedures

Duties – cont’d

  1. Effectively works with contracted facility to ensure employees are effectively trained on all required competency skill levels.
  2. Conducts sterile processing employee assessments of job performance to policy and standard work; identifies competency deficiencies and conducts effective training to eliminate gaps.
  3. Participates and assists in new hire orientation and on the job, training as directed by the Education Manager and/or operations leadership. 
  4. Completes and maintains training records, employee education files and documentation of competency skill level.
  5. Ensures employee training files and documentation of competency skill levels and certifications are up to date in the company database and accurately reflect the employees’ job-related responsibilities. 
  6. Demonstrates extensive knowledge of multi-specialty instrumentation and serves as a resource for staff in SPD.
  7. Provides re-education training and communication for performance issues found in the OR and instrumentation tray audits.  
  8. Conducts employee assessments and trains to deficiencies noted. 
  9. Aid in the on-going development of staff education by providing in-services to staff at a cadence determined by Education Manager and/or operations leadership.
  10. Adjust schedule to work with all employees on all shifts to ensure training needs are met and supported. Ability to work pre-arranged weekend, night, and evening hours.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Education Degree

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or GED, Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required 
  • 3+ years’ experience in Sterile Processing
  • 3+ years’ experience in training 
  • Sterile processing certification required

 Pay range for this opportunity is $58,250.00 – $81,637.50.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
