Law and the U.S. Constitution in Global History (4 units) USC Gould School of Law is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach an undergraduate law class, Law and the U.S. Constitution in Global History. The instructor will begin work this fall 2024 to develop the course. The instructor will then teach the course during the spring 2025 semester, from Jan 13 to May 2, 2025 (final exam period from Wed-Wed, May 7-14). The class is scheduled to be held on campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00PM to 11:50PM. Additionally, the lecturer will supervise Teaching Assistants who will lead various discussion sections for this course. Candidates should have strong legal professional backgrounds, with experience in the subject matter and preferably teaching experience. The course will be taught exclusively to enrolled undergraduate students. A PhD or Juris Doctor degree is required. Course Description: This is a course about law and constitutionalism within and beyond the United States.By examining key constitutional moments, students will explore how legal meaning changes over time and learn about the global influence of the U.S. Constitution. One of the insights that the course seeks to convey is the extent to which legal ideas have crossed and re-crossed borders with an approach that is both comparative and dynamic. This class may be postponed to a later semester if there are less than 6 students enrolled. Spring Semester 2025 73 instructional days Classes Begin; Mon, January 13 Martin Luther Kings Birthday Holiday: Mon, January 20 Presidents Day Holiday: Mon, February 17 Spring Recess: Sun-Sun, March 16-23 Classes End: Fri, May 2 Study Days: Sat-Tue, May 3-6 Exams: Wed-Wed, May 7-14 Grading Deadline: TBD USC reserves the Adjunct appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year but, in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean. To ensure compliance with federal, state or local regulatory requirements as well as university policy and procedures, Adjunct Lecturers are required to complete specific training requirements as a condition of employment. Adjuncts Lecturers must complete mandated training by a required deadline. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination, in accordance with the Faculty Handbook. Trainings that are required for all faculty and staff include USCs Harassment Prevention Training at the time of hire and every two years thereafter, USCs Integrity and Accountability Code Training at the time of hire, Information Security training annually, and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan training annually.
