Department Summary The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program promotes safe workplaces through training and education, research, policy analysis, and technical assistance. LOSH programs emphasize worker engagement, leadership development, collective problem-solving, and participation in workplace and union health and safety programs. LOSH strives to reach immigrant workers, young workers, and those in traditionally underserved or high-risk occupations, and small businesses. Position Summary The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program promotes safe workplaces through training and education, research, policy analysis, and technical assistance. LOSH programs emphasize worker engagement, leadership development, collective problem-solving, and participation in workplace and union health and safety programs. LOSH strives to reach immigrant workers, young workers, and those in traditionally underserved or high-risk occupations, and small businesses. The LOSH Project Coordinator oversees LOSH training initiatives designed to promote hazard awareness, skills building and resiliency for workers engaged in environmental disaster response and recovery efforts and those facing severe climate-related hazards. The Project Coordinator supports training and program development efforts under several grant-funded projects for both English- and Spanish-speaking audiences. They also lead a regional LOSH initiative designed to expand the capacity of worker organizations to respond to climate events and environmental disasters at the community level. The Project Coordinator is responsible for various facets of assigned projectsconducts outreach, facilitates meetings and communications between project partners, contributes to development of curricula and materials, convenes worker training sessions (in-person and online), provides follow up support and assistance to training participants, and supports program evaluation activities. The Project Coordinator leads and co-facilitates trainings in English and Spanish, and supports a network of training participants through ongoing outreach, technical assistance, and engagement. S/he works in close collaboration with other LOSH staff, subject matter experts, partner organizations (labor unions, worker centers, and community-based organizations) and government agency representatives to carry out assigned tasks. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Minimum 3-5 years Experience with project coordination (Required) Minimum 3-5 years Experience leading worker/adult training in English and/or Spanish. (Preferred) Working knowledge of occupational safety and health principles and policies, adult education principles with a commitment to advancing workplace safety and health, climate change and environmental hazards, and/or environmental justice issues. (Required) Familiarity with systems for disaster response and recovery, including formal emergency response frameworks (i.e., Incident Command System) and/or community-based emergency response approaches. (Required) Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish (Required) Demonstrated ability to plan projects, develop work plans and timelines, and ensure completion of work plan satisfactorily within timeframe agreed upon with supervisor. (Required) Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with government agency representatives, workers, unions, community-based organizations, and general public. (Required) Experience developing curricula, educational materials, and/or training activities in English and Spanish and ability to write concise, logical, grammatically correct reports, routine business correspondences and procedures. (Required) Experience facilitating training sessions and/or teaching adult learners through in-person or online means in English and Spanish. (Required) Ability to synthesize and communicate technical, scientific, and/or policy information for lay audiences. (Required) Ability to work independently to complete tasks with minimal oversight, and to make decisions independently as well as ability to work as a team player, thrive in a team environment, and foster teamwork among others. (Required) Skill in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems, recommending or implementing solutions and following through to completion. (Required) Experience collaborating with diverse partner organizations to build capacity to implement and advocate for protective public health or occupational health and safety policies and ability to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships. (Required) Working knowledge and proficient use of various word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, calendaring and electronic mail software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Outlook. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Associate’s Degree In related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Required) Other Type of Degree Continuing education in related field required (Required) Master’s Degree In Public Health or a related field (i.e., environmental health, disaster response, emergency management) (Preferred) Relevant certifications in OSHA Disaster Responder, EMS, CPR/First Aid, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) (Preferred) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Possess a valid California driver’s license in good standing with access to a car for local travel and available for occasional evening and weekend activities as determined by operational needs.
