The USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California (USC Norris) was founded in 1971 and has been continuously funded as an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1973. USC Norris has a rich tradition of collaborative research and serves as a major regional and national resource for cancer research, prevention, treatment and education. The PI of the lab is Dr. Michael R. Lieber with 50 years of experience in biochemistry and molecular biology.Cindy Y. Okitsu, M.S. is a research technician II with 40 years of experience in molecular biology. Go Watanabe, Ph.D. is a Research Associate with 20 years of research experience. The Lieber lab is focused on understanding DNA damage and DNA repair in humans as these relate to cancer, aging, and the immune system. Job Accountabilities: Experiments are focused on questions specified in Dr. Liebers grants. These include studies of DNA repair proteins and enzymes. The person hired will learn to express proteins in human cell lines, purify proteins, and document their status (purity and enzyme activity). The person hired will analyze DNA sequence and protein sequence data. The person hired will prepare reagents and monitor equipment needed for experiments. Successful Candidates Must Demonstrate: Practical skills in laboratory research in a biochemical and molecular biology lab. The hourly rate range for this position is $18.89 – $19.00.
