Your Role on the Team Position Summary: The incumbent directly supervises laboratory technical and administrative functions for a distinct operational unit consisting of technologists who perform a wide variety of laboratory duties including but not limited to pre analytical processes and testing through data analysis and reporting; or technicians, assistants, phlebotomist and other staff who provide a wide range of laboratory support services; or a combination of both. Performs bench testing as needed. SUPV_ Performs the full range of supervisory duties to include personnel supervision including but not limited to monitoring of employees’ hours of work, schedule, tardiness, family medical leave, unscheduled absences, length of breaks, overtime hours, weekend and holiday coverages. Oversees these daily activities and provides status reports to Sr. Supervisor. Ensures personnel engagement, effective communication, positive employee and labor relations, hiring and discipline, assessment of proficiency and staff competency, performance evaluation, and goal setting and attainment. Monitors and reports on the operating budget, and oversees equipment. Effectively serves as a technical resource and communicates with laboratory staff and internal and external customers to ensure positive outcomes and compliance with labor union agreements and all established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. 45% LAB SVCS _Performs the full range of duties including but not limited to all preanalytical processes and testing through data analysis and reporting, performs non-repetitive technically complex procedures or tasks in a specialized area; monitors, investigates and resolves errant data and equipment failure; takes the initiative to prevent or solve problems; and seeks opportunities to improve efficiency and streamline processes. 30% CMPL_Assists with ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and with all accreditation agencies’ requirements. 10% CMPL & QUAL _Ensures activities performed within the area(s) supervised consistently comply with written standard operating procedures and proper procedures and techniques. Contributes to review, update and creation of new SOPs. Monitors and documents as required for quality control, quality assurance and compliance. May lead quality and performance improvement initiatives and projects. Required Qualifications: Skills to work collaboratively, coordinate and integrate with others in other laboratories, departments, and throughout the organization. Successful background working with all groups: peers, scientists, multidisciplinary team members, executives, assigned staff. Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution. Demonstrates sound judgement. Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Must be willing to work variable shifts and overtime as required Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a CLS II/ Lead Technologist / Supervisor in a clinical cytogenetics laboratory. Minimum of five (5) years of pertinent cytogenetics (karyotype and FISH) laboratory experience. Knowledge of laboratory application information system. Ability to analyze data using queries and visual review. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Current CA CLS License At least 10 years of laboratory experience in both karyotype and FISH study of cancer samples.
