MILITARY VETERANS

The American Film Institute is a nonprofit organization with a mandate to champion the moving image as an art form. Established in 1967, AFI launched the first comprehensive history of American film and sparked the movement for film preservation in the United States. In 1969, AFI opened the doors of the AFI Conservatory, a graduate-level program to train narrative filmmakers.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Operating under FERPA guidelines, the Manager, Institutional Research is responsible for the Institutional Research of the AFI Conservatory and assists the Registrar and Director, Institutional Research with providing leadership in the measurement and assessment of the Conservatorys educational effectiveness, enrollment management, strategic planning, and other data-driven initiatives. The Manager will also assist in developing, analyzing, and maintaining data and provides support for reporting related to records, surveys, and statistics, and act as a liaison across the AFI Conservatory to facilitate the exchange of key information.

As part of the Office of the Registrar team, the Manager will spend approximately 25% assisting with specific functions of the Office to better support student services.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Institutional Research 75%:

Manage the Conservatorys institutional research activities including collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting information on the characteristics of the Conservatory for use in decision making, planning, and providing information to stakeholders and community members.

Collaborate with departments across the Conservatory to identify related data/information needs and create an institutional data resource to meet those needs.

Design, collect, analyze, present and publish demographic and academic data pertaining to the Conservatory, via institutional research, with visual dashboards using PowerBi.

Collaborate with and support the Registrar and Director, Institutional Research, Discipline Heads and the Associate Deans in the assessment of Fellow learning, including the design, implementation, and monitoring, and warehousing of survey devices and assessment data with the use of Qualtrics

Assist in the completion and submission of government reporting, including but not limited to IPEDS, enrollment reporting, graduate and degree verification reporting to the National Student Clearinghouse.

Coordinate the preparation of reports or special projects for the Office of the Registrar and Vice Dean, Administration, which may include but is not limited to document digitization, data cleanup and data loads into AFIs technology systems.

Assist the Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, and Vice Dean, Administration with data extraction and contribute to the production and development of reaccreditation activities and institutional research, reports and executive summaries that communicate data findings for internal and external stakeholders.

Office of the Registrar Duties 25%:

Assist the Associate Registrar and serve as a backup scheduler for the academic calendar via 25Live.

Manage the processing of Fellow ID cards.

Coordinate with the Registrar and Associate Registrar with preparation for, and execution of, Commencement activities for Fellows.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED :

Bachelors degree required.

2-3 years experience in a related academic position, with knowledge and experience operating under FERPA guidelines, and experience with academic records using a student database.

Experience working with datasets, including importing/exporting from various sources, merging, and cleaning data files, and maintaining historical records.

High level of proficiency and knowledge of PowerBi and Qualtrics or any other similar data/management systems, standard statistical analysis software, and survey platforms preferred with ability to build visual dashboards.

High level of proficiency in using student information systems and education technologies with knowledge of functional modules in the systems: Canvas LMS, Campus Caf, and 25Live.

Ability to write and run queries using SQL.

Project management skills with the ability to take a project from conception through completion with minimal supervision.

Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills, and the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Highly developed customer service skills with the ability to establish and maintain rapport with internal and external contacts.

Exceptional detail orientation with the ability to handle multiple tasks with appropriate follow-up and reporting activities with a high degree of accuracy.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong diplomacy skills and professionalism are mandatory; this includes the ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion.

High level of proficiency on Macintosh computer with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for a Mac environment.
