Job Summary The AWS Security Architect encompasses the day-to-day responsibilities to embed security controls and guardrails within the AWS cloud computing at Caltech. An AWS Cloud Security Architect job description entails being responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and monitoring complex secure AWS Cloud solutions and infrastructures for Caltech. Help in building efficient and scalable solutions to improve efficiency, security and achieve Caltech’s AWS goals. Ensure the security and compliance of AWS services by implementing best practices, encryption, and identity and access management (IAM) controls. Strategizing to build the most efficient and secure AWS services is a critical part of this role. Additionally, collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the AWS services implemented correctly, securely and take responsibility for any issues that might arise because of the designed architecture. This is a Campus Critical position. An employee designated as campus critical is expected to be aware of the campus emergency management plan and to report to Campus as soon as possible in the event of an emergency to assist in campus wide response and recovery efforts. Responsibilities and Duties of the AWS Security Architect To create and maintain reliable and secure cloud solutions utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS), an AWS Security Architect is responsible for a wide range of tasks, including: Solution Design: AWS Cloud Security Architect will be responsible for designing scalable, cost-effective, and efficient solutions while taking care of compliance and best practices. Collaboration: working closely with stakeholders and product teams to gather technical and non-technical requirements and translate them into well-architected and secure solutions. Implementation: Implement solutions using AWS offerings such as EC2, S3, Lambda, GuardDuty, Security Hub, etc. Configure and deploy solutions using automated solutions such as AWS Cloud Formation and Terraform. Security and Compliance: Ensure that the architecture and solutions are compliant with AWS foundational best practices, NIST guidelines and mitigate any security vulnerabilities that might occur. Performance Optimization: Focus on optimizing performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Provide technical support on AWS-related issues, monitor solutions, and implement appropriate strategies to eliminate performance bottlenecks. Cloud Governance: Utilize tools such as IAM, resource tagging, cost management, etc. to enforce AWS governance policies and implement monitoring and alerting solutions to address issues proactively. Enforce SCP’s by defining guardrails applicable to Higher Education like Caltech or as business needs and requirements. Support on-call security team and be on rotation for security ticket escalation. Other duties as assigned. Required skills and competencies A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is a basic requirement. Minimum of 3+ years’ experience with designing and implementing AWS secure solutions. Must possess at least one of the AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Cloud Security Engineer, or the AWS Cloud Security Architect certification. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Proven familiarity with cloud computing concepts. Experience designing and implementing secure AWS cloud solutions is a must. Awareness of best practices in the AWS Cloud. Experience with cloud governance. Effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to articulate technical solutions clearly. Knowledge of AWS service offerings such as S3, EC2, RDS, RedShift, etc. Knowledge of securing AWS service offerings. Required Documents Resume.
