The incumbent performs assigned nursing procedures, taking vital signs, collecting and processing specimens for analysis, and assisting physicians with examinations and treatments. Incumbent observes, records and reports the physical and mental condition of patients. Conducts effective patient/family teaching. Documents all patient education. 10% Collects, labels and sends to laboratory for analysis specimens such as sputum and urine. Appropriately communicates and documents lab results. 10% Assesses and documents the patient’s physical and psychosocial condition initially and on an ongoing basis. Accurately evaluates and documents the patient/family response to care. Documents patient observations/care appropriately in the computer, on the flow sheets, or wherever appropriate. 40% Administers patient treatments or procedures in a safe, effective and age appropriate manner, and in compliance with all policies, protocols, and regulations. Accurately takes and records vital signs including temperature, pulse, weight, respiratory rate and blood pressure, documenting appropriately. Required Qualifications: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Minimum 1 year experience working with pediatric patients Minimum 6 months experience working as an LVN in an acute care or ambulatory setting Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Preferred Qualifications: Understanding of JCAHO requirements Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese Licenses and Certifications: LVN (Required) BLS (Required) Conditions of Employment: The University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment for the entire UCI community.
