Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Machine Tech V, Davenport in our Torrance, California location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Primary Purpose

Independently sets up and operates Davenport Machines to perform several primary machining operations such as; turning, facing, shaving, chamfering, drilling, counter boring, reaming and threading of raw metal stock to produce precision metal product and trains/mentors new operators in the department

Responsibilities:

  • Create own layout from part print and determine the Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) and cycle times as required
  • Perform first piece verification process per part print as required
  • Perform Lock/Out Tag/Out (LOTO)
  • Run multiple machines as required while maintaining high quality parts, efficiency and productivity per standard time on router
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance sheet daily
  • Takes initiative to perform daily 5s in assigned area and machinery
  • Active involvement in Autonomous Maintenance and process improvements initiatives
  • Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) and System 21 & 22 per part print as required
  • Train new operators as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet facility goals
  • With minimum assistance from Lead, the operator will perform all standard set up within standard time on router; operating, troubleshooting, and machine service as required
  • Adjust machining parts, tooling, including sharpening tools on surface grinders or pedestal grinders
  • Set-up and operation of equipment – Multiple Spindle (Davenport/Chucker).
  • Responsible for producing and maintaining high level quality parts per print specifications
  • Work with various types of material such as Titanium, Aluminum, and other stainless steel
  • Perform first piece verification process per part print as required
  • Run multiple machines as required which maintaining high quality parts, efficiency, and productivity per standard time on router
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance per daily schedule
  • Take initiative to perform daily 5S in assigned area and machinery
  • Active involvement in autonomous maintenance and process improvements initiatives
  • Understand and perform statistical process control
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet facility goals

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Davenport machine operator
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Must have good communication skills and know basic shop math
  • Ability to read and interpret product prints.
  • Ability to use inspection gages and instruments
  • Follow all EHS Policies, Procedures and report all incidents immediately

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with aerospace fastener
