The goal of the alumni relations and annual giving program is to support the overall advancement of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering by engaging all alumni for life, building a culture of philanthropy, and finding the representative voice for the alumni. The Executive Director position reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Advancement and must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively to establish a comprehensive USC Viterbi alumni and annual giving program. This role will design, implement, and manage outreach, events, programming, partnerships, and communications to maximize alumni engagement with the Viterbi School. The Executive Director oversees three direct reports and is expected to create and maintain a work environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics. Primary Responsibilities Include: ALUMNI RELATIONS Advances the mission of the school by planning, organizing, and implementing strategies to build audience, awareness, and a sense of community among Viterbi alumni, both domestically and internationally, to increase the personal involvement and financial support of Viterbi alumni, parents, and friends, as well as the broader University community. Successfully develops and implements targeted programs, events, and other opportunities that captivate and engage specific audiences. Promotes departmental goals and priorities and encourages active involvement from prospects, including cultivating relationships leading to successful solicitations. Participates in the development of corporate and major gift fundraising efforts where appropriate. Collaborates closely with the university’s central alumni association office to ensure goals of the school are effectively communicated and represented. Collaborates with advancement team and broader Viterbi team to identify, cultivate, and steward alumni and volunteers and share information on events and alumni engagement opportunities. Builds relationships across departmental lines and supports the development of a culture of philanthropy within the Viterbi community. Supports the expansion of constituent relationships and enhancement of funding by encouraging gifts of all sizes. Focuses targeted effort on leadership annual giving, from constituents associated with specific departments, programs, and alumni of USC Viterbi. Develops a comprehensive strategic plan for the long-term commitment and effort to maintain continuous contact and engagement with Viterbi alumni at every stage of an alums life.Consistently evaluates programs and projects designed to connect with alumni. Oversees volunteer and support groups, activities, and events. Ensures events and activities are planned and implemented efficiently and effectively. Assists volunteer leadership to identify potential new volunteers, philanthropic supporters, and future leaders. Coordinates the development and production of marketing materials for specific alumni and affinity groups when organized by school and/or department. Serves in a project management role for alumni events including managing invitations, messaging, and budgets, effectively attracting the target audience. Coordinates with Viterbi’s marketing and communications team to appropriately represent the school across various Viterbi media including the website, the Viterbi Magazine (class notes and alumni profiles), the monthly email newsletter, social media channels, and through other collateral. Prepares annual alumni reports assessing progress toward achieving stated goals. Analyzes data and information to identify trends and patterns, evaluates strategies, and makes recommendations. Maintains current and comprehensive alumni data. Represents the school or department at professional and University meetings in the context of alumni relations and activities. Communicates goals and priorities of the school or university to various alumni and affinity groups. Oversees and guides the Emerging Leaders Board, the recent alumni board at USC Viterbi, and works with the volunteers and committees of the board. Manages the Associate Director of Alumni Relations and Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations, India. ANNUAL GIVING In collaboration with University Advancement Annual Giving, develops solicitation strategies and materials for direct mail, telephone, email, and digital fundraising. Oversees the Viterbi Innovation Partners program an alumni engagement and leadership annual giving program which is managed day-to-day by the Director of Development, Annual Giving. Leads the Annual Giving team in frontline fundraising outreach and strategy to engage alumni, parents, and friends for qualification and solicitation for in-person visits in support of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Develops and manages a portfolio of active prospects. Develops, coordinates, and implements fundraising strategies. Oversees identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and partnerships with major giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations efforts. Manages the Director of Development, Annual Giving. Domestic travel, evening and weekend events will be required from time to time. Candidates must reside within commuting distance to the Downtown Los Angeles office and University Park Campus. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Additional Information: This is a hybrid position. The Executive Director will be expected to work onsite for at least one day per week. This position is not eligible for fully remote work. The annual base salary range for this position is $141,658 $170,664. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope of responsibilities of the position, the candidates work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations. Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree 7 years of progressively responsible experience in development and fundraising. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree 5 years of progressively responsible experience in development and fundraising. Experienced fundraising professional with a demonstrated track record of success in alumni relations and annual giving, preferably at a complex research university or institution in an engineering/computing/science or professional school. Proven ability to successfully carry and administer a portfolio and ask for high end annual gifts. Demonstrated project, personnel, and volunteer management experience, particularly with volunteer boards and organizations. Proven leadership and relationship management abilities, and the ability to work well as a team player and have strong diplomatic skills. Superb organizational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including public speaking and solicitation writing. Proficient in utilizing social media to develop and engage constituent groups. Demonstrated technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and constituent relationship management and data systems. Experience in data analysis. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. A valid drivers license is required.
