Lecturer for Master of Social Science (MaSS) Program- Winter and Spring 2025 University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF09890 The UCLA Master of Social Science program (MaSS) is seeking to hire a lecturer for Winter and Spring 2025 to teach SOC SC 403: Quantitative Evidence and Analysis in Social Sciences and SOC SC 404: Quantitative Research Design in Social Science. SOC SC 403 introduces students to fundamental statistics and data science tools widely used in the social sciences. Students develop core skills for evaluating and presenting quantitative research evidence. The statistical concepts covered include descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, probability, statistical tests, correlation and causation, and regression analysis. This course uses of the R statistical programming language. SOC SC 404 provides students with an overview of social science research methods with an emphasis on quantitative methodologies and experiments. Students will design research projects, collect data, conduct quantitative analysis that may require descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, probability, statistical tests, correlation and causation, and regression analysis, and report their findings. SOC SC 403 is a prerequisite for this course. The expected enrollment in each course is approximately 30 students. The courses are taught in a seminar format and include a mix of lecture, demonstration of software tools, tutorial-guided self-study, team-based collaborative work, and discussion. Qualifications: Applicants should hold a PhD in a social science or related discipline. Prior experience teaching quantitative methods, quantitative data analysis or statistics, preferably with experience teaching at the graduate level, is required.
