Department Overview

Avigilon Alta (Formerly Openpath), a Motorola Solution’s Company, is a leader within the access control industry. Our access control solution makes businesses more secure with multi-factor authentication, enables a contactless entry experience and can be easily scaled and managed due to its cloud-based architecture.

The Avigilon Alta hardware group is looking for an outstanding team member to drive design, development, and deployment of the middleware on Raspberry Pi based hardware devices. We are looking for strong technical talent to join us as we build, scale and innovatively develop our industry leading platform for access control and office automation. Strong analytical and software skills are a must in order to join our team, and we are particularly seeking candidates with experience and skills in multiple technologies, in order to contribute broadly to our team-centric approach to product development.

Job Description

Our engineering team aids in building the infrastructure that seamlessly supports the business and its growing customer base.  Engineers, customers, and end-users will all be affected by solutions developed by our team. It’s a full stack on a small team with big company support approach. This position requires constant cross team communication and heavy cooperation with customer support, software, and hardware development groups. An ideal candidate will be passionate about problem solving, will look to automation to address issues, and will ultimately envision solutions to the next level.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform failure analysis of customer returned products, newly manufactured products, and prototype products, with the intent of root cause isolation of full device system issues, this include hardware and software components on the device
  • Evaluate the electrical characteristics of systems and circuits, components, and sub-components to help determine root cause of failure using Electrical fault isolation tools/techniques
  • Work autonomously or at times within a team, to analyze design, reliability, or yield failures down to a root cause
  • Work with engineering team to suggest and implement fixes for causes of failure
  • This will involve use of various state-of-the-art analytical tools, processing the acquired data and information sets to arrive at a conclusion regarding the cause of failure
  • Monitor Customer/Technical support process and procedures and implement changes to optimize the process
  • Develop test methods to aid in identifying the root cause of field issues.
  • Apply DOE & FMEA methods in identifying root cause and qualifying resolution.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of testing plans, testing results, and customer impacts.
  • Work with a truly unique and driven team that comes from a diverse background of different hardware and software roles.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Science)
  • 4+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience 
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Have a high sense of urgency, strong work ethic and is results oriented.
  • Operating knowledge of Linux based systems
  • Knowledge of battery and energy products required with ability to read schematics and technical drawings.
  • Willingness to work autonomously

The base salary range for this position is $110,000 – $130,000 depending on background and experience.

This position is based in Culver City, CA and the candidate must reside in the Greater Los Angeles Area as you will be required to go into the office.

  • 4+ years of experience in hardware engineering, failure analysis, or test related work
