Department Summary The MIMG department mission is to provide the highest quality research and education possible in the interdisciplinary fields of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics. To meet this goal, we work together as scientists, educators and students to identify and address the most relevant problems in microbial pathogenesis and physiology, host cell biology and immune defense, and the host-pathogen interface. Position Summary Under the general supervision of the laboratory Principal Investigator and the Preclinical Lab Director, the Lab Research Supervisor position major functions will be the management and supervision of all mouse research activities in the lab, including the training and work scheduling and the work performed by 3-4 Staff Research Associates, 4-5 graduate students and 2-4 post-docs. Independently design new assays, prepare preclinical lab SOPs, analyze data required for successfully completing preclinical studies in a GLP environment and prepare reports for the generated data. Assays requiring standardization include: primary cell culture, Mouse tissue harvest and processing, DNA and RNA isolation, FACS, PCR analysis and HPLC analysis. The incumbent will be responsible for oversight of colonies of mice in the BSRB and TLSB vivariums used for breeding and research studies and will be responsible for developing new animal research protocols in the RATS system, updating existing protocols, completing renewals as needed; ARC protocol development and maintenance and compliance with all regulatory requirements. The incumbent will be expected to contribute original ideas that shape the direction of the projects. Serve as Clinical Laboratory Safety Manager (act as the liaison and contact person for all safety inspections and maintenance of the manuals), oversee toxic waste disposal/pick-up and have primary responsibility to maintain inventory and lab equipment in good working order to include preventative maintenance and repairs, purchase reagents as needed. Responsible for ordering and organizing laboratory supplies and inventory. Responsible for compiling and organizing preclinical laboratory SOPs. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Advanced skills in tissue culture techniques and working with lentiviral vectors. (Required) 4. Advanced skills in PCR, DNA and RNA isolation molecular biology techniques. (Required) 5. Demonstrated ability to prepare written reports. (Required) 6. Demonstrated ability to standardize new techniques. (Required) 7. Advanced knowledge to develop and execute experimental protocols (SOPs). (Required) 8. Demonstrated ability to employ techniques and analyze data. (Required) 9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working conditions and relationships. (Required) 10. Knowledge of UCLA policy to act as safety officer and comply with all EH&S and ARC protocols. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree In related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Required) Master’s Degree in Biological Science or related field and 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
