Department Summary

Receive, process, and issue dental instruments; cassettes, dental supplies and equipment through the Dental Center Central Services Units. Utilize computerized accounting system, maintain physical inventory, and order material. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of all work areas. Serve as back-up staff as assigned by the Supervisor or Clinic Director.Incumbent performs proscribed tasks and duties under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Central Services.. A performance evaluation will be undertaken on an annual: basis.

Qualifications

  • Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations and practices or procedures to:- Define the problem or objective.- Identify relevant concerns or factors.- Identify patterns, tendencies and relationships.- Formulate logical and objective conclusions.- Recognize alternatives and their implications. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of University accounting forms, policy and procedures, and the ability to process forms required to accomplish various accountingtransactions. (Preferred)
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position – maneuvering downward and forward. by bending the spine at the waist for the purpose of equipment cleaning and reviewing supply inventory. (Required)
  • Ability to exert force upon a sterilizer cart for the purpose of sterilizing dental instruments and equipment (40+ lbs.). (Required)
  • Ability to stand for a prolonged period of time for the. purpose of instrument and equipment sterilization and dissemination of same to students. (Required)
  • Skill In performing repetitive work according to set procedures, sequence, timing and place. (Required)
  • Skill in writing correct routine business correspondence such as brief transmittal memoranda, internal operating procedures, and performance evaluations. (Required)
  • Skill In reading documents written in standard English text such as administrative policy and procedures manuals. (Required)
  • Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions. (Required)
  • Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly to obtain and convey information to Individuals at various levels within the organization. (Required)
  • Skill in interacting diplomatically with the public (primarily dental students) in a high volume continuous public contact setting. (Required)
  • Ability to maintain a customer-focused attitude while handling competing tasks. (Required)
  • Skill in working independently and following through with minimal direction. (Required)
  • Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect importance to job responsibilities. (Required)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Certified as a Central Service Technician or has working knowledge of:- Basic microbiology- Fundamentals of cleaning- Steam and dry heat sterilization- Ethylene Oxide sterilization and aeration- Chemical disinfection- Sterilization quality assurance and sterile storage standards- Packaging and shelf life- Preparation of external solutions- Infection control- Safety and preventive maintenance- Infection control with supply distribution- Work simplification (Preferred)
  • Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.

  • Ability to work evenings for routinely scheduled night clinics and weekends for state board exams. (Required)
