Position Summary Under the supervision of the Sheetmetal Supervisor, assist and support Journey-level Sheetmetal Workers by performing semi-skilled minor repairs to sheet metal products such as down spouts, ventilators, and ductwork. Perform simple fabrication and installation of sheet metal ductwork; insulate and seal ductwork. Perform light welding and oxyacetylene cutting. Operate and maintain sheet metal tools and equipment, e.g. power shear, power brakes, notching, and hand brakes. At the request of Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead Sheetmetal Worker, respond to trouble calls involving simple repair or replacement. Ensure the transport of materials, equipment and personnel to and from job site. Clean job site and return equipment and materials at completion of job. Some overtime will be required. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Ability to perform routine and semi-skilled sheetmetal tasks in the maintenance, alteration and repair of campus buildings and related facilities. (Required) General knowledge of materials, equipment, methods of the sheetmetal trade. (Required) Ability to perform simple fabrication and installation of sheetmetal duct works and the ability to insulate to code. (Required) Ability to perform light welding and oxyacetylene cutting. (Required) Ability to operate and maintain a variety of related power and hand tools of the trade such as power shear, power brakes, notching, hand brakes, iron worker, welding torch and oxyacetylene cutting following all safety protocols. (Required) Previous experience with HVAC. (Preferred) Ability to read and write standard English text, work orders and verbal skills sufficient to interact effectively with customers and the general public. (Required) Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise, and grammatically correct information. (Required) Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. (Required) Work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues. (Required) Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required) Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment. Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired. Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination. Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV “Pull Notice System” and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record. Color Vision Testing Ability to respond to off-hour emergencies and overtime as required. (Required) Ability to stand, crawl, walk and stoop; push and pull objects up to 50 lbs. (Required) Must have valid California Driver’s License, Class C. Ability to drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties.
