Department Summary The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program promotes safe workplaces through training and education, research, policy analysis, and technical assistance. LOSH programs emphasize worker engagement, leadership development, collective problem-solving, and participation in workplace and union health and safety programs. LOSH strives to reach immigrant workers, young workers, and those in traditionally underserved or high-risk occupations, and small businesses. Position Summary The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program promotes safe workplaces through training and education, research, policy analysis, and technical assistance. LOSH programs emphasize worker engagement, leadership development, collective problem-solving, and participation in workplace and union health and safety programs. LOSH strives to reach immigrant workers, young workers, and those in traditionally underserved or high-risk occupations, and small businesses. Under the direction of the LOSH Associate Director, the LOSH Program Specialist provides outreach, training, and research support for LOSH educational initiatives in English and Spanish. Coordinates with LOSH staff and community-based partners to organize and conduct worker training activities on climate-related hazards, including but not limited to issues of extreme heat. Assists in developing program and course materials, identifying new target audiences, and assessing results. Gather and summarize publicly available data on relevant occupational health topics. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Commitment to advancing workplace health and safety, environmental health, and social justice for all workers. (Required) Experience working with community-based organizations and/or worker advocacy organizations. (Preferred) Experience developing education materials, particularly for worker audiences and/or those with limited literacy. (Preferred) Experience accessing and summarizing public data sources for academic and/or lay audiences. (Preferred) Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. (Required) Demonstrated interpersonal skills, both in-person and via email. (Required) Ability to organize and manage time efficiently. (Required) Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required) Ability to identify problems and consult with supervisor and/or project leads in a timely manner to identify solutions. (Required) Ability to work as member of a team. (Required) Working knowledge and proficient use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or similar office tools, and use of various social media platforms. (Required) Bilingual English-Spanish, both oral and written. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree In Social Sciences, Public Health, Education, or a related field and/or equivalent experience/training (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
