Hearst Magazines is hiring a Senior Manager, Video to join the west coast team. This person will be working in a combined role across all brands, plus special projects. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment, be capable of balancing multiple projects simultaneously, and will be a problem-solver who is quick on their feet. This person will bring both creative and technical expertise to all projects they work on, which will cover a range of topics including fashion, lifestyle, celebrity, and more.
The position involves duties as both a video editor and media manager. As a video editor, this person will bring deep experience editing multiple finished, high-profile projects. The person in this role will act as a resource for more junior editors, providing creative and technical advisement and expertise to the rest of the post production team. They will establish new series formats, and act as the go-to editor for pilots, development projects, and projects featuring high-profile talent.
Media management responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ingesting and verifying media from shoots onto cloud and local storage devices, distributing ingested media to the appropriate team members, prepping and distributing video footage for video editors, and maintaining records and communication regarding ingested projects with relevant team members in both LA and NY. The role may require occasional duties outside of normal business hours – both editing and managing media during live events.
This position will report to the Director of Post Production.
What you’ll do:
- Edit long and short-form content for multiple different platforms (on-site, YouTube, Instagram, etc), using the Adobe suite of applications (Premiere, After Effects). As an editor, you will have keen attention to detail and knowledge of all parts of the editing process, including audio mixing, color grading, and implementing graphics via mogrts
- Act as a video editor for pilots, development, and the most high-priority projects on the Central Video team
- Ingest and verify all footage that is shot in-house or sourced from outside vendors
- Actively maintain online cloud storage database for trafficking content
- Communicate with various stakeholders about ingested media and maintain records for all media ingested
- Manage local storage in the LA office, including any NAS devices used to locally store media and hard drives
- Advise other editors and the Director of Post Production on technical and creative questions that arise
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Film/Art/Photography
- 5+ years of total experience, with 3 or more years editing content for digital platforms
- Expert with Adobe Premiere Pro
- High proficiency with other Adobe Creative Suite applications, including a strong working knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, and Photoshop
- Knowledge of camera workflows and how to handle footage from various cameras
- Working knowledge of Airtable or equivalent project management software
- Experience with FTP software and online cloud services
- Ability to troubleshoot and research potential problems with receiving or delivering footage
- Familiarity with audio mixing and color grading/correction also a huge plus
- Excellent editing skills and time management capabilities
- Proficient with story structure and story-telling skills
- Ideal candidate will be tech savvy and knowledgeable about up-and-coming aspects of film and video production
- High level of communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
The base salary for this role is between $74,000-$89,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This position is based in the LA office a minimum of 3 days a week, but due to the production nature of the role, you may be in the office and on-set closer to 5 days a week.
