This person assumes primary responsibility for all irrigation systems in all campus areas, both in maintaining proper watering techniques, but also in testing and maintaining all systems. Assists with other duties as needed. This person reports to the Manager of Landscape Services and works cooperatively with the Landscape Lead. Required Education High School or equivalent, some college preferred. Required Experience At least five years of groundskeeping experience in a corporate or multi-site setting, along with at least two years of quality irrigation experience. Primary Duties/Essential Functions Performs regular irrigation system inspections and notes any broken heads or lines for repair. Receives and responds to work orders regarding irrigation issues. Maintains irrigation clocks and diagrams. Works with the Landscape Lead and landscaping crew to adjust watering times and frequencies according to seasonal needs. Repairs leaks or breaks to irrigation water lines that are after backflow devices or shut-off valves. Designs and installs efficient new systems or sections of systems as needed. Assists crews and Landscape Lead with Blowing, Trash, Mowing, and other responsibilities as needed. Skills Knowledge of materials and tools as listed above. Mental Demands Must be self-motivated; must have the ability to work independently for long periods without losing focus. Ability to give direction to student help assigned. Must be able to multi-task, organize, and prioritize numerous details in multiple sites. Ability to understand ordering system, and correctly fill out paperwork. Physical Demands Able to do heavy work, i.e., lift 50-75 lbs. Repeated stooping, bending, shoveling, sawing. Visual Demands Computer monitor and reading. Environment Subject to outdoor environment conditions: temperatures above 95 degrees F for periods of more than an hour, rain, wind, and even occasionally temperatures down to freezing. Subject to fumes from glues and primers, as well as other chemicals and oils. Subject to hazards due to proximity of electric current, noise, and vibration of moving mechanical parts. Technologies Proficient in Word and Excel. Compensation Grade 7: $19.49 to $22.41 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
