Department Summary Library Special Collections (LSC) builds and stewards special collections resources, services, and operations. The department consists of threeunits: Curatorial; Collection Management; and Public Services, Outreach, and Community Engagement (PSOCE). The Curatorial Unit is responsible for collection development and acquisition of materials in support of research and teaching. The Collection Management Unit makes collection material discoverable and accessible through ethical and iterative processing. The Public Services, Outreach, and Community Engagement Unit integrates public-facing operations for LSC including reference and instruction, exhibits, programmatic events and activities, outreach and community engagement, as well as the Center for Primary Research and Training. The entire staff of approximately 30 FTE work together holistically as a team to build, preserve, and provide access to the outstanding special collections of the UCLA Library. LSC works closely with our colleagues within the distinctive collections portfolio to steward a range of international resources in support of UCLA’s mission for thebetterment of our global society. Position Summary Under the direction of the Team Lead for Collection Management, the Backlog Project Coordinator (BPC) oversees the successful execution of an archival assessment and reappraisal project for backlogged materials in Library Special Collections. The BPC will collaborate with LSC staff to establish project plans and efficient workflows for triaging, inventorying, and re-appraising, collection materials within designated subject areas. The BPC will assemble and train a project team of project assistants to carry out the project with efficiency and accuracy. In consultation with LSC staff, the BPC will perform preliminary re-appraisal, create box level inventories, and generate re-appraisal reports for triaged collections informed by LSC’s collection development policies and utilizing specialized knowledge and expertise. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Supervisory experience that includes training and leading staff and student employees. (Required) Demonstrated experience working with project management tools. (Preferred) Knowledge of best practices for handling archival materials. (Required) Familiarity with ArchivesSpace or other archival information management systems. (Required) Knowledge of nationally-accepted archival standards for description, such as Describing Archives: a Content Standard (DACS). (Required) Ability to research, identify, and describe archival material in a variety of formats. (Required) Strong project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. (Required) Excellent written and verbal communication, including ability to provide clear project updates. (Required) Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-motivated. (Required) Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and managers. (Required) Demonstrated knowledge of archival principles, as well as best practices for archival accessioning. (Required) Ability to lift, shelve, and shift library materials weighing up to 25 pounds, and to push a fully-loaded book truck.
