Your Role on the Team Position Summary: The Surgical Scheduler position requires utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate surgeries/procedures per provider’s orders. The Surgical Scheduler must schedule hospital surgeries/procedures consistent with the patient’s diagnosis and the procedure or surgery requested. Also requires excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, medical staff providers and their office personnel and the public. The Surgical Scheduler must be able to respond both to oral and written correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Individual must be organized, and be able to manage demanding workload with accuracy. Must also be able to coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team to ensure all aspects of the surgical procedure are addressed. The Surgical Scheduler ensures that patient visits are coordinated and scheduled in a timely fashion, to speed the flow of registration and to support pre-arrival activities by obtaining demographic, clinical and financial information to safely and effectively deliver care and make the best use of Tenet resources. Follows established scheduling and customer service standards, policies and procedures to support the Tenet mission and commitment to quality healthcare with a personal touch. The Surgical Scheduler is under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator of the Surgery Department and the Perioperative Services Director. What It Takes to be Successful Required Qualifications: Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail. Basic understanding of medical terminology required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills with patients, staff and other healthcare professionals. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise critical thinking skills. Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain own and others’ workflow. Knowledge of basic computer operations to perform data entry required. Health care scheduling experience required. BLS/CPR required. Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a physician practice or related healthcare setting preferred Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms Total Compensation We offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding.
