WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
We’re looking for a Transportation Specialist based out of our Pomona location to coordinate the movement of life-saving blood products across our communities. In this vital role, you’ll schedule and dispatch both paid and volunteer drivers, manage transportation logistics, and ensure timely, safe deliveries to hospitals and facilities.
You’ll also support the implementation of departmental programs, assist with remote team building for employees and volunteers, and gather feedback from customers to continuously improve service. In addition, you’ll participate in volunteer engagement activities and events—helping to build and energize a compassionate, mission-driven team.

Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and schedule deliveries and shuttles including empty box pickups utilizing vendors/volunteers and ARC paid couriers based on the most economical and cost-effective means.
Coordinate pickups of collected products (time-sensitive and non-time sensitive) from mobiles, fixed sites and staging sites utilizing the most economical and cost-effective means. Make proactive adjustments to routes on an as needed basis due to inclement weather, major traffic issues, and special events, etc.
Schedule and supervise volunteers and work with volunteer Manager to increase volunteer base. Participate in/plan local volunteer recognition events.
Engage volunteers as equal team members with specific responsibilities. Support the workforce engagement team; assist with the training and skill development of volunteers to enable mission delivery.
Interact with internal and external customers to provide updates/status. Monitor electronic manifest to provide tracking of couriers and deliveries to customers. Perform Connect activities to ensure that we are responding in real time to provide better service to our customers.
Work with supply management group and contracting as needed.
Evaluate and ensure the proper vehicle needs are being met for the site and coordinate the request with the Fleet Coordinator. Work with Fleet for vehicle needs.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.
Standard Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM to 5:00 PM or 10 AM to 6:00 PM. May work unscheduled hours/days and weekends, and may travel up to 20% within the region.
The salary for this position is: $68,640

Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required, an associate’s or bachelor’s degree is a plus.
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of related experience
A valid driver’s license and clean DMV record is required.
Ability to work on a team. Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Proven track record of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.
Additionally, this position requires ability for planning, public speaking, project management and process improvement. Individual must be customer oriented, organized, and able to operate with an orientation toward solutions with an external focus, and team orientation.
Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws.
Travel: Travel may be required. For positions applicable to Disaster Services, deployment to disaster operations outside the assigned region is required.

Physical Requirements: Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Physical requirements may include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., squatting, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes is required. At the American Red Cross, we conduct many mobile blood drives at businesses, schools and many other locations.
