Department Summary Excelling in quality, innovation, and impact, UCLA Extension (UNEX) is one of the top providers of continuing and professional education in the United States, offering programs and classes to more than 50,000 students per year through approximately 4,500 classes and certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of traditional, nontraditional, domestic, international, professional, and continuing education students throughout and beyond Los Angeles. Position Summary The Center for Advising and Student Success (CASS) is a unit within the UCLA Extension (UNEX) Student Services division.?CASS’s mission is to achieve positive student outcomes by implementing a data-informed and metric-driven holistic academic experience for UNEX students from pre-enrollment to post-graduation. Working under the direct supervision of the Career Services Manager, this position will develop and deliver career services, programs, and resources for students and alumni. It will also focus on enhancing employer relations to optimize job placements for graduates. The Career Services Specialist is an entrepreneurial-minded career services professional with excellent communication and critical thinking skills and a curiosity for innovation in career services in continuing education. The role will be instrumental in expanding career programming, supporting employer relations efforts, and assisting in employment outcomes and reporting goals. Thus, the position will significantly impact the implementation and shaping UCLA Extension’s strategic priorities. The Career Services Specialist must possess a broad knowledge of various career functions, including advising, job market trends, and industry relations, to effectively serve a diverse student population. A strong understanding of the needs of adult learners and non-traditional students, with the ability to advise them, is preferred. The specialist proactively addresses the professional development needs of students and employers. Typical duties for this role include providing career counseling, programming, and developing resources to help students and alumni achieve their career goals. The incumbent will also enhance employer relations to improve internship and job placement opportunities and contribute to data reporting efforts at the institution. However, the day-to-day responsibilities may vary for different Career Services Specialists based on specific needs and priorities. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications 3-5 years of progressively responsible, related professional experience in career services in a higher education and/or business environment. (Required) Minimum of 1 year of experience supporting neurodivergent students and diverse student populations. (Required) Demonstrate expertise in organizing tasks and prioritizing effectively, with a proven ability to meet deadlines despite competing demands. Skill in coordinating essential steps for program implementation and adept at analyzing diverse factors to make informed adjustments and recommendations for improvement. (Required) Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis and to groups, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain information, explain procedures and make oral presentations. As well as have strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, campus and UCLA Extension personnel as well as instructors employers and students. (Required) Proficient writing skills to compose correspondence and reports in a clear and concise manner, using proper syntax and grammar. As well as working knowledge of word and data processing equipment. (Required) Consistently present and punctual in the workplace, with a willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed. (Required) Ability and willingness to learn new skills and tasks, responding effectively to changes in directions and plans. Ability to maintain an open approach regarding performance feedback and guidance. (Required) Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information and documents, transcripts, reports, issues, and other sensitive information. (Required) Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers, managers, supervisors, customers/clients, and members of the public. (Required) Ability and willingness to provide excellent, consistent service to external and internal customers, responding to customer needs and expectations in a supportive and professional manner, with attention to promptness and a focus on solutions.
