Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Department Manager and the Supervisor/Lead, incumbent is responsible for providing support to properties managed by UCLA Housing & Hospitality. The incumbent inspects and maintains painted exterior and interior painted surfaces, trimming and fixtures of buildings and other related structures and facilities. Use premixed paints or custom prepared paints; apply wood finishes (new and/or old surfaces) and appropriately prepare surfaces. Perform repairs to drywall, plastered surfaces and stucco. Demonstrate proper use and maintenance of airless and conventional spray equipment. Cover interior walls and ceilings of offices and related facilities with wallpaper or fabrics. Discuss jobs with supervisor in order to keep apprised of job progress and resolve any problems related to the job. Submit completed work orders to supervisor. Provide direction to semi-skilled or unskilled workers. Maintain accurate hours on each job; operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools and equipment of the trade; follow established safety procedures; clean up job site and return equipment and tools.

Qualifications
4 years experience working with materials, equipment, methods and tools of the painter’s trade, including special knowledge of spray equipment. (Required)
4 years experience working with surface tolerance for: plaster, drywall, wood, metal, plastic, for paint and special coatings. (Required)
Skill in mixing paints, varnishes, pigments and drying substances to match desired color and viscosity. Capable of distinguishing different colors. (Required)
Skill in estimating type and quantity of materials needed to complete specific assignments. (Required)
Ability to inspect, lubricate, clean, adjust or replace equipment and parts related to the paint trade. (Required)
Knowledge of fire, safety and building codes; working knowledge of standard safety practices and safe use of equipment related to the paint trade. (Required)
Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Train and assist with oversight of seasonal employees, including workflow, transportation, distribution of materials and equipment, room access and closure, and time entry to ensure all daily requirements are met for the group. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with interpersonal skills. Interact effectively and diplomatically with team members, peers, supervisors and all levels of University personnel. (Required)
Ability to work under adverse conditions such as humid weather and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures and dirty and noisy conditions. (Required)
Ability to stand, crawl, walk and stoop, push, pull and lift/lower objects weighing up to 50 pounds from floor to waist high and rotate upper torso. Ability to lift material and parts, up to 50 pounds, from shoulder to above head while standing on a ladder. (Required)
Proficiency in English to read technical trade related manuals and written instructions from supervisor. (Required)
Working knowledge in the use of a computer and programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. (Preferred)
Ability to drive a pick-up truck or van. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
