Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
Reporting to the EH&S Specialist 5, the incumbent independently develops, implements and manages multiple programs in the field of radiation safety to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and ensures a safe workplace. Responsible for development and implementation of specific operational radiation safety programs at multiple UCI Health locations. Experienced professional who independently performs a wide range of functions supporting radiation safety; analyzes problems and determines solutions. Decision-making is based on established procedures; relevant laws; regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology; impact on other EH&S programs; senior management approval as required. Decisions may impact individual work, other EH&S programs, other departments or programs in the organization.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
- Valid State of California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
- Thorough knowledge/understanding of radiation safety including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge/understanding of all EH&S fields.
- Thorough knowledge, understanding of, and skill in applying radiation safety and environmental regulations (CDPH/RHB, NRC).
- Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines.
- Strong technical skill in use of analytical/scientific equipment.
- Strong analytical skill in evaluating data produced by surveys or monitoring.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints.
- Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
- Must demonstrate good presentation skills
- Must be trained in OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) with current certificate or able to obtain recertification
- Must be available for on-call assignments or alternate work schedules
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience in a large hospital or academic medical center, specifically in radiation safety/health physics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation. Position is subject to the California DMV’s ‘Pull Notice System’ and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, math, chemistry, engineering, or biology, or a closely related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across Health Affairs
