Department Summary The LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) which is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master’s degree programs in social work provide training to new and current employees at DCFS, particularly new hire Children’s Social Workers (CSWs), current CSWs, and Supervising Social Workers (SCSWs), Human Services Aides (HSAs), Child Service Administrators (CSAs), Eligibility Workers, public health nurses (PHNs), other managers and administrators, case aides, and public stakeholders. Position Summary Under the direction of the Training Director of the LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence, the Assistant Training Director is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of professional development and training programs for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Key duties include serving as a backup to the Director, mentoring training staff, developing curriculum relevant to public child welfare, attending intake meetings, and responding to Requests for Training. The role also involves contributing to the writing and implementation of Requests for Proposals, overseeing training logistics, and ensuring that contract deliverables are met in collaboration with UCLA and DCFS partners. Previous 3-5 years experience in training and 1-2 years writing curriculum for public child welfare are desirable. Master’s degree in social work or closely related field. This position requires strong working knowledge and/or expertise in child welfare and training (live and virtual) experience as well as strong project management skills, interpersonal, presentation, collaboration, and facilitation skills are required. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications Demonstrated strong experience in instructional design, adult learning theory, transfer of learning and development and delivery of training curriculum. (Required) Demonstrated experience in problem-solving, conflict resolution, mediation, consensus building, group facilitation, and coordination involving large public organizations. (Required) Experience with public child welfare agencies. Familiar with federal and state laws affecting child welfare practice in California. (Required) Experience with Title IV-E contracts. (Preferred) Demonstrated experience working with information technology staff with expertise in databases, learning All Preferred management systems, eLearning, and business intelligence systems. (Preferred) Capacity to achieve consensus while maintaining neutrality and trust, problem-solve, consult and make recommendations to achieve shared goals and objectives. (Required) Ability to set expectations effectively, follow up, organize groups, and successfully execute tasks and projects. (Required) Expertise in establishing and working with networks, partnerships, associations of government and/or community non-profit organizations, including professionals in human services. (Required) Knowledge of graduate social work academic, administrative, and practicum education structures, culture, policies and procedures and work experience in a public child welfare agency. (Preferred) Current knowledge of leading trends in policy, practice, interventions, training, research, and literature in public child welfare. (Preferred) Research or evaluation expertise including study design, statistical analysis, and reporting. (Required) Demonstrated ability to provide mentorship to other trainer staff. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Master’s Degree in Social Work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or related degree. (Required) Other Type of Degree Licensed Clinical Social Worker or MFT (Preferred) PhD in Social Work.
