Department Summary UCLA Recreation is a large department within the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs with approximately 90 full-time career and contract and over 1,000 part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and wellbeing services and offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, the department manages 15 of the University’s recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, competition, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events. Position Summary Seeking qualified candidate to coordinate and supervise Outdoor Adventures programs, including Outdoor Education classes, Rock Wall, and Equipment Rental Center. This is a full-time, hands-on role for an experienced outdoor professional ready to lead and grow dynamic adventure-based programs. Position involves program development, staff supervision, inventory management, team building facilitation, and risk management. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Professional Challenge Course portfolio demonstrating broad experience, including a minimum of 80 hours of training received, and 500 hours of facilitation delivered, required (Required) 1 Year Lead Indoor climbing/rock wall instruction experience; (Required) 1 Year Experience planning and leading outdoor education trips (Required) 1 Year Experience designing custom team building outdoor adventures and events (Required) 1 Year Experience managing rental customers and inventory (Preferred) Working knowledge of outdoor education industry best practices, risk management, program design, safety standards, land management regulations, and “Leave No Trace” skills and ethics. (Required) Demonstrated ability to manage an outdoor equipment rental center (Required) Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED and Wilderness First Responder. (Required) Ability to supervise part-time student staff including interview, mentor, manage conflict, team build, and problem solve. (Required) Working knowledge of student, staff, and volunteer-based leadership development programs, preferably in a campus recreation setting. Ability to formulate and monitor plans according to established goals. (Preferred) Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative and professional working relationships with co-workers, employees, and the public. (Required) Ability to listen perceptively and maintain equanimity when dealing with conflicts, complaints, and difficult situations. (Required) Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate an instructor training and leadership program, including development of materials, teaching, and evaluation. (Required) Excellent verbal and written communication skills to develop and prepare substantial documents, including program descriptions, reports, and staff manuals. Aptitude and willingness to learn the technical skills needed to manage financial, POS, project management, and risk management software systems. (Required) Knowledge of SmartSuite platform necessary (Preferred) Fusion experience helpful (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
