80% FTE Instructor faculty position, Department of Sociology Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles, invites applications for an 80% Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Instructor position in the Department of Sociology. We are seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring within an equity-minded, and human rights-focused sociology program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy, and preparing students for careers in sociology as well as criminology, such as working in non-profit organizations, youth and family counseling, K-12 teaching, in allied-fields in the medical arena, and in criminal justice careers, such as the law. This position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in sociology and criminology and contributing to the academic and professional development. The instructor will also participate in curriculum development, academic advising, and collaborative departmental initiatives aligned with the program’s mission. Primary Responsibilities: Teach 3 undergraduate courses per semester in sociology and/or criminology (topics may include Introduction to sociology, research methods, gender, justice and crime, Use inclusive, strengths-based teaching strategies that support student success. Provide academic advising and professional mentoring to sociology and criminology majors. Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program. Maintain regular office hours and be accessible to students. Engage in departmental meetings, service, and professional development activities. Collaborate with community partners and support field education where appropriate. Position Annual Hiring Salary Range: $56,243 – $58,000 Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate’s qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description. Job Requirements: Required Skills and Qualifications: Master’s degree in Sociology or related field from an accredited university or college A minimum of two years teaching experience Demonstrated ability to teach and engage undergraduate students effectively Experience in sociology work practice across diverse settings Strong understanding of sociology ethics and professional standards Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills Preferred Qualifications: College-level teaching experience, especially in Sociology programs. Experience working with historically underserved communities. Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
