UCLA Music Industry 2025-26 Part-Time Lecturer in Global Music Industry University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF10656 The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music invites applications for a part-time Lecturer in Music Industry for the Winter quarter of the 2025-26 academic year. The position will staff a course in Global Music Industry, designed as an introduction to global music industry through contemporary research, case studies, and trends. Salary will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications and experience. Applicants should have a deep understanding of how cultural, political, and economic contexts shape the global music industry. The Music Industry program is committed to respectful and accurate representation of diverse music cultures; thus, the ideal candidate must possess the ability to respectfully and accurately engage with issues like cultural appropriation, representation, and postcolonial theory. They should have experience working with international record labels, distributors, or music companies. They should have expertise in global tour management, artist development, or music licensing across borders, and experience with music markets in key regions: U.S., U.K., Latin America, Africa, East/Southeast Asia, India, Middle East. Applicants should also demonstrate expertise in: international copyright and IP laws; cross-cultural marketing exporting/importing music content; music industry infrastructure and trends in non-Western countries; global music trade organizations (e.g., IFPI, CISAC); trends like K-pop, Afrobeats, Reggaeton, Bollywood music, etc.; local-global hybridity and cultural exchange. Responsibilities will include individual student teaching supervision and assigned undergraduate course in the School of Music. Applicants with a master’s degree, or with relevant professional experience in the global music industry, or fluency in other languages will be preferred.
