Department Summary UCLA?s Economics Department has two interlocking objectives. We conduct cutting edge research by developing new methodologies and applying them to understand society?s most critical issues. We also seek to train the next generation of economic leaders in the private sector, government and academia.UCLA is one of the top-ranked economics departments in the world. We have a young and active faculty whose research is shaping policy and informing the public on critical issues affecting the United States and the world. Our work covers a diversity of topics such as the origins and persistence of the Great Depression and its lessons for today?s economy, the relationship between education and health outcomes, cartels and antitrust policy, the economics of health care, and the impact of immigration on labor markets. Many of our faculty have received special recognition for their body of research by election to prestigious institutions such as the National Academy of Science, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and the Econometric Society, or have received such celebrated awards such as the Guggenheim and Sloan Fellowships.Our undergraduates are equally impressive. They are among the brightest students on campus and consistently go on to find success in the job market and in graduate school. We have approximately 3300 majors at any one time making us the largest among major economics departments across the country and the largest major on campus. Our students come from over 60 countries around the world yet the majority call California their home. Position Summary Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and the Undergraduate Vice Chair, the Assistant Director of Program Marketing mpact of the unit. This includes designing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across digital, print, and social platforms; coordinating outreach events; and ensuring all messaging reflects institutional brand standards. Using market research and data analytics, the Assistant Director identifies emerging trends, applies best practices, and develops strategies that strengthen recruitment pipelines and student engagement. In collaboration with campus departments, faculty, and student-support offices, the Assistant Director designs and delivers high-quality summer programming. Responsibilities include coordinating logistics, streamlining communications, and providing course support for instructorshelping them navigate administrative processes, secure needed resources, and delivering an exceptional learning experience for students. The role also proactively builds and maintains relationships with alumni, community organizations, and external partners to create internships, mentoring opportunities, and other value-added program elements. The Assistant Director supports the Undergraduate Counseling Unit in student-facing capacities. This includes assisting with communications to prospective and current students, developing resources and outreach materials for counselors, participating in advising and recruitment events, and serving as a liaison between students, counselors, and campus services. Through strong relationship-building skills, marketing insight, and a deep understanding of student services, the Assistant Director ensures that programs and communications advance the units mission and deliver a seamless, high-quality experience for students, counselors, and Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Qualifications 0-5 years Experience in higher education with demonstrated experience in finance/economics course development and program management. (Required) 0-5 years Prior teaching experience and/or experience in mentoring and coaching students. (Preferred) Ability to conceptualize, design and implement innovative career/student development and/or internship/fellowship programs appropriate for all levels of students and alumni seeking careers, primarily with a focus on Economics, business, in all sectors of employment (business/industry, government, not-for-profit, etc.) (Required) Demonstrated expertise in the labor market, employment trends, and recruitment strategies and techniques, specifically relevant for Economics students. (Required) Ability to support and maintain critical long-term liaison relationships with diverse populations and organizations, staff of all levels, employers, faculty, students and alumni on behalf of the Department of Economics. (Required) Ability to identify needs of unique customers and deliver specialized strategies and services to meet their career challenges based on lifestyle, ethnicity, physical conditions, etc. (Required) Evidence of presentation skills to present career/program/training information to small and large groups. (Required) Ability to communicate and market the services of Summer and Department Programs to a broad spectrum of constituents, particularly those associated with UCLA’s Economics department (i.e. potential students, current students, employers, faculty, and administrators.) (Required) Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement projects with complex logistics involving multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to work in a fast paced environment with diverse clientele, and available to work weekends and evenings, depending on need. (Required) Displays exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrates tact and diplomacy, utilizing strong public speaking skills, listening and interpretive skills. Ability to develop positive relationships; demonstrate excellent customer service and teamwork skills; and work collaboratively with employers, key University partners and staff. (Required) Ability to conduct training sessions and make oral group presentations to provide information on various topics related to business opportunities, externship, and fellowship programs. (Required) Demonstrated ability to blend technical knowledge and expertise with excellent verbal/writing skills and the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical staff. (Required) Demonstrated expertise in all recruitment related technologies and/or modules, and the event management systems. Strong knowledge of occupational, career and employment information resources, technology, and materials. (Required) Career/student counseling and facilitation skills, familiarity with student service philosophy and ability to work with colleagues in planning and providing student services.
