Description

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Neurosurgery Patient Care Coordinator (Administrative Assistant 2) to support patient care operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring continuity, coordination, and a positive experience for patients and their families.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating patient care, follow-up, and communication.

  • Answering, triaging, and responding to patient phone calls.

  • Scheduling and preparing clinic appointments, including pre- and post-visit chart reviews.

  • Assisting patients with scheduling diagnostic tests and procedures.

  • Preparing charts and documentation for clinic visits.

  • Entering referrals and orders, and obtaining insurance pre-certifications and authorizations.

  • Managing referral work queues, medical record requests, and medication refill processing.

  • Organizing and maintaining a computer-based calendar system.

  • Assisting with disability forms, return-to-work documentation, and other patient or provider correspondence.

  • Performing additional administrative projects and tasks as needed.

This position requires excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills, with a strong commitment to patient-centered service.

Hourly range: $26.42-$37.49/hr

Qualifications

Required:

*         High degree of adaptability

*         Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload and assignments, pressures of deadlines, and/or a heavy workload.

*         Demonstrated basic knowledge of physician office policies and procedures

*         Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationship with medical, nursing and administrative personnel.

*         Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction

*         Working knowledge of patient related policies and procedures, as well as a thorough understanding of the University system

*         Familiarity with physician office billing procedures

*         Verbal and composition skills to convey detailed medical information

*         Ability to prioritize workload when faced with changing deadlines.

*         They should have the ability to triage incoming calls with efficiency.

*         The incumbent must have the flexibility to be able to handle variable Neurosurgeons calendars.

*         Requires responsibility of checking in nightly for next day’s assignment

Preferred:

*         Knowledge of neurosurgical medical terminology to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses and other members of the health care community.   Current knowledge of neurosurgical diagnosis, treatments, and terminology

*         Knowledge of University forms and procedures. 

*         Knowledge of University’s Electronic Medical Record System
