Summary: The Regional Broking Leader is responsible for leading the broking and placement of new and renewal business, overseeing portfolio management, and driving strategic initiatives that align with NFP’s national and regional goals. This leader serves as both a strategic architect and hands-on expert for the most complex placements, ensuring the delivery of industry-leading solutions and client value. The leader is expected to challenge conventions, value diverse thinking, and drive innovation in broking practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Broking Excellence:
- Drive national and regional broking initiatives to improve value delivered to all stakeholders, including close collaboration and alignment with National Broking Leader
- Support the definition and utilization of strategic carriers at the national and regional level, including relationship development, strategic growth partnership, and enhanced commercial outcomes
- Drive panel utilization, while improving coordination and partnership across regional and national stakeholders
- Reduce reliance on wholesalers and achieve annual preferred wholesaler utilization goal
- Proactively seek feedback from account management leaders/teams to enhance the value we are able to deliver to clients and support of the teams; similarly, provide account management leadership feedback on opportunities to improve engagement with the broking team
- Working knowledge of client needs across the portfolio and the effective deployment of client-facing resources and technology to successfully impact the client’s service experience
- Actively engage and collaborate with Industry/Broking National Practice SMEs to support client business development and retention
- Identify and communicate market trends with respect to carrier appetite, terms and conditions, capacity, rate changes, etc.
Portfolio & Growth Management:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and strategic partners to deliver on NFP’s broking strategy and expand client relationships
- Achieve KPIs for growth, retention, and margin; support prospecting, cross-sell, and up-sell initiatives
- Contribute to monthly Strategic Account Reviews meetings to deliver enhanced outcomes for clients in protecting their balance sheet and supporting their growth: contemplate any material changes in a client’s operations or risk profile; collaborate on renewal strategy for existing lines of business and identify any uncovered exposures to be addressed; coordinate any support needed for the account team
- Proactively engage with regional and national broking resources to develop renewal strategy plans with timely execution to enhance account / revenue retention and expand existing book of business through a targeted approach on account rounding
- Enhance the quality of submissions that go out to market and conveyance of the value we delivered through the marketing process articulated in client proposals
- Support producers in evaluating, strategizing and supporting the go-to-market approach for new business prospects
Operational Excellence:
- Instill accountability and derive fact-based insights on broking strategy action items to improve execution
- Ensure accurate client and policy information in NFP’s Epic agency management system; harness data and analytics for portfolio insights and market differentiation
- Actively identify and drive the utilization of new systems and processes that improve margin and efficiency
- Drive account segmentation strategy for consistent, tailored client experience.
- Implement effective control mechanisms to avoid errors & omissions, including educational sessions for the team
- Ensure adherence to compliance requirements
- Support claims handling and resolution, when necessary
Talent & Team Development:
- Define success and direct team broking activities to achieve the optimal outcomes for clients/prospects; ensure a go-to-market strategy is in place for each broking engagement
- Recruit talent that aligns with current and future organizational requirements, including succession planning and career path development
- Effectively engage colleagues and provide objective performance feedback through interim and annual performance reviews to support talent development
- Set challenging and achievable team and individual objectives, while ensuring the team is trained and supported to achieve professional standards and core competencies
- Foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, and continuous improvement
Market & Carrier Relationships:
- Drive alignment with national and regional strategic carrier partners, deepening relationships and achieving superior terms, conditions, and claims support
- Cultivate resilient, multi-level relationships with carriers, wholesalers, and internal teams
- Leverage market intelligence to identify trends, carrier appetite, and opportunities for enhanced commercial outcomes.
- Enhance carrier marketing pipeline meetings to garner greater strategic relationship development and alignment by providing performance feedback, highlight opportunities for them to compete as well as inform them of business at risk
Skills & Qualifications:

- Excellent leadership and portfolio management skills; prior team leadership experience required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Extensive understanding of broker operating fundamentals and financials
- Excellent negotiation skills – ability to adjust approach to effectively drive optimal outcomes depending on different personalities
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to focus the team to manage changing workload, work complexity and priorities
- Self-motivated and determined with positive attitude and sense of urgency
- Strong attention to detail with strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
- Proven technical competency and creativity demonstrating excellence in developing and delivering innovative property and casualty solutions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Epic (agency management system) a plus
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; Master’s degree a plus
- Minimum ten years insurance experience
- Broad exposure to a variety of lines of insurance, products, services, and technology
Certificates, Licenses, Registration:
- P&C License required
- Achieved one or more advanced industry designation(s) (e.g. CPCU, CIC, ARM)
