Staff Vice President of Pharmacy Product

Location:   May be located in any Elevance Health PulsePoint office preferably in Indianapolis, IN, Atlanta, GA, Mason, OH, Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, Chicago, IL, or New ork City,

This role requires associates to be in-office at least 3 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. Summary

The Staff Vice President of Pharmacy Product is a senior executive responsible for shaping and executing the long-term vision and strategy for Elevance Health’s pharmacy product portfolio business, with full ownership of our PBM product P&L.  Reporting to the President of CarelonRx PBM, this role leads enterprise-wide efforts to define the future-state pharmacy product offering for all commercial and government lines of business (internal and external), advancing Elevance Health’s mission to improve affordability, quality, and whole-health outcomes. 

  

The Staff VP provides strategic direction across product innovation, pricing and growth, lifecycle management, and competitive positioning to advance Elevance Health’s leadership in the PBM market. This leader collaborates closely with CarelonRx executive leadership across benefit management, pharmacy operations, health plan product leadership, sales, and account management, as well as the centralized Carelon Product organization on strategy,  execution,  and go to market, lifecycle management, network management, and cross-segment business teams to develop a differentiated pharmacy offering that meets evolving client, member, and market needs. 

  

Position Responsibilities

  • Leads development and execution of the enterprise PBM product strategy, ensuring alignment with Elevance Health’s strategic priorities and growth objectives. 

  • Full ownership and responsibility of our PBM Product P&L 

  • Partners with the Carelon Product function to manage the PBM product lifecycle, including strategy, ideation, prioritization, rationalization, development, go-to-market, lifecycle management, and market performance evaluation. 

  • Translates market trends, regulatory changes, and client insights into actionable strategies that drive business growth and client satisfaction. 

  • Evaluates external vendors to support strategy 

  • Creates multi-year roadmap for PBM product ensuring a balanced portfolio that advances affordability, access, and clinical value 

  • Partners with the Carelon Product function to create multi-year PBM product roadmaps, ensuring a balanced portfolio that advances affordability, access, and clinical value.  

  • Collaborates with enterprise marketing, segment, sales leaders, and product go-to-market teams to develop go-to-market strategies and product positioning that highlight Elevance Health’s PBM value proposition. 

  • Provides executive-level leadership on strategic design, pricing, and market differentiation to strengthen Elevance Health’s competitive position. 

  • Oversees the development of key performance indicators and reporting mechanisms to evaluate PBM product success, adoption, and profitability. 

  • Builds, leads, and inspires a high-performing business and operating organization; provides mentorship, vision, and professional development to drive execution excellence. 

  • Provides operational support and oversight for PBM offerings once in market, including managing key operational teams to mange products post-launch, tracking KPIs, and ensuring a consistent feedback loop for market and operational issues back into the strategy.

  

Position Requirements

  • Requires a BA/BS degree and a minimum of 10 years of related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

  

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in product strategy, PBM leadership, or healthcare innovation, including significant executive-level responsibility for strategy development and implementation strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing multi-year strategies that drive business growth, operational efficiency, and client satisfaction. 

  • Strong executive presence, with the ability to influence and collaborate across enterprise and segment leadership. 

  • Deep understanding of the PBM landscape, including network strategy, clinical integration, and market dynamics. 

  • MBA or MHA preferred. 

For candidates working in person or virtually in the below location(s), the salary* range for this specific position is $178,160.00 to $320,688.00

Locations: California; Illinois, New York
