The Prenatal Screening (PNS) Coordinator works under the provisions of the coordination contract between Cedars Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) and the State of California Department of Public Health, Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP). The PNS Coordinator is responsible for managing the CA PNS daily caseload for the assigned catchment area. Working under minimal supervision and following the Scope of Work contained in the Contract, the coordinator serves as an educational resource of the California Prenatal Screening Program. The role is expected to act autonomously and to seek direction when needed. What are the Primary Duties and Responsibilities? Following the Scope of Work contained in the Coordination Contract, reports the headline case test results to providers. Obtains the missing information on “inadequate information” cases; informs providers when specimens were obtained “too late” or “too early” or were “unscreenable.” Manages the data/demographic computer changes on each assigned case; instructs the clerical staff on how to enter data changes on each reported PNS case and checks results after each data entry for accuracy. Provides patient counseling when requested by either the clinician or the patient with regard to the PNS test (explaining its purpose, its benefits, and its limitations). Authorizes follow-up services provided by the California Genetic Disease Screening Program in the event of screen positive results. Drafts appropriate correspondence to providers regarding unusual problems/ circumstances associated with specific PNS cases and saves copies for office reference. Educates clinician providers and their staff about the aspects and protocols of the PNS Program by informal presentations at OB care provider facilities, and by formal presentations at hospital grand rounds or similar gatherings for physicians, both in-person and virtually. Manages the CSMC PNS Program referral caseload. Collects data for possible future research studies as assigned by the Manager or GDSP. Attends GDSP coordinator meeting/s at request of the Manager, or other educational conferences made available by Contract funding. Teamwork/Customer Relation Responsibilities Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks Support team members by sharing resources, knowledge, and best practices to achieve departmental goals Participate in team meetings, providing input and solutions to improve processes and enhance efficiency Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages open communication and mutual respect Serve as the primary point of contact for community OB/GYNs, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly and professionally Maintain a high level of provider and patient satisfaction by delivering accurate information and personalized support. Qualifications Education, Experience, and License/Certification Requirements: Bachelor?s degree in genetic counseling, registered nursing, or other related health field required. Master’s degree in maternal-child health, genetics, or other related field preferred. Two (2) years of experience in genetics services, maternal-child health or related area preferred. Genetics Counselors must be certified or eligible for certification (preferred upon hire).
