Description
The Staff Research Associate I will assist in the
preparation, management, and daily use of critical laboratory resources,
including a frozen human tissue bank, hybridomas, and human cell line stocks.
This position will involve the isolation of biological materials, including
DNA, RNA, and protein, from valuable human tissues, cell lines, and xenografts.
High-quality management and accurate cataloging of these resources using a
relational computer database will be required. The role will include a substantial
amount of tissue culture work, such as routine cell maintenance and cell
proliferation assays. In addition, the position will require the generation and
analysis of Western blots, PCR and RT-PCR assays, DNA gel electrophoresis, PCR
product purification, DNA gel isolation, and the creation of expression vectors
through molecular cloning techniques, including DNA mini- and maxipreps and
restriction enzyme digestion. The position will also require the generation of
cell line clones using molecular cloning approaches and lentiviral systems.
Hourly Salary Range: $27.85 – $33.21
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in
biology and/or equivalent combination of education and experience - Experience in Biology, Microbiology
or related area - Ability to perform
additional duties, tasks, special projects as needed by the Supervisor and the
Division Manager. -
Demonstrated ability to
set and meet internal deadlines, work independently, use judgment and make
decisionsâ - Ability to organize and
update paperwork with supervision - Ability to Maintain
proper usage of laboratory equipment - Experience in culture
tissue procedures - Ability to perform gel
electrophoresis - Ability to organize raw
data into relevant formats such as PowerPoint slides - Ability to communicate
well, work in a team environment organized and must be able to keep detailed
notebook - Experience working with
mouse xenograft models of cancer - Expertise monitoring of
drug efficacy and toxicity of novel anti-cancer compounds - Experience preferred
tissue culture, cell maintenance type work as well as cell proliferation assays. - Experience with both
two- and three-dimensional drug response assays - Skills in isolation of
biological materials, (DNA, RNA and Protein) from precious human tissues and
cell lines as well as the cataloging and management of resources using
relational computer database. - Perform additional
duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to those
outlined above.
