Join the dynamic Cataract and Refractive Surgery Division team! Our ophthalmology Administrative Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and patientâsupport services under the general supervision of the Office Manager. This role supports physicians, staff, and patients by coordinating smooth patient flow. Responsibilities include. but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating patient flow from registration through checkâout and assisting with patient questions and needs
  • Scheduling consultations, managing followâup appointments, and processing cancellations
  • Completing demographics, referral forms, and collecting insurance cards and payments
  • Obtaining authorizations and payments 
  • Support surgery scheduling tasks as needed
  • Balancing daily cash drawers and maintaining accurate financial and administrative documentation

Salary Range: $26.42- HourlyQualifications

Required:

  • Understanding of basic ophthalmic terminology and familiarity with the signs and symptoms of various ophthalmic problems so as to answer patient questions and know when urgent evaluation is indicated.
  • Ability to schedule, check in/out, and encounter patients in the appointment registration system
  • Skill in recognizing and managing emergency situations
  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction and in timely manner
  • Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly in person and on the telephone to communicate to physicians, patients, staff, and other individuals
  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task in a busy and stressful environment while maintaining a calm, caring, efficient, and engaging demeanor
  • Ability to run Apple and Windows operating systems, perform routine maintenance, perform software upgrades, troubleshoot common problems, protect systems from exposure to viruses and other malicious software, and run common applications programs such as email, web browsers, text editors, spreadsheets, calendars, EMR, etc.
  • Ability to handle heavy telephone traffic and assist callers with their needs or refer them appropriately

Preferred:

  • Experience working in the healthcare setting scheduling appointments, performing insurance verifications, processing authorizations, surgery scheduling.
