Department Summary Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity (CEED) at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering champions the academic and professional development of a community of engineering and computer science undergraduate students who exhibit a deep interest and commitment to engaging in leadership activities to address the barriers facing women and minority students in engineering careers, including students who are first in their families to attend college or who have experienced socioeconomic or educational disadvantages. The Center offers various programs to support K-20 pathways that lead to engineering and computing degrees. Position Summary The Pre-College Program Coordinator will perform high-level programmatic duties and interface with students, teacher and principals from local schools, MESA Statewide staff, Samueli leadership, faculty, and staff, to effectively implement initiatives leading to the achievement of department objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for program coordination of the CEED pre-college Programs: Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) and Mathematics Achievement Program (MAP), managing middle and high school student outreach and engagement, including coordinating campus events and visits for pre-college students and teachers; preparing reports and managing MESA student workers. The incumbent will serve as the main contact for the UCLA MESA Schools and MAP participants. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining MESA and MAP records and developing MESA and MAP collateral and digital assets (video, print, audio and other media). Experience with outreach efforts for students from diverse populations and backgrounds with sensitivity to culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. (Required) 2. Experience developing, implementing and managing academic success programs and working directly with local middle & high school teachers and administrators, and community colleges, and undergraduate students. (Preferred) 3. Experience and skills to analyze and evaluate technical and non-technical program requirements, information, or problems in an objective manner, and make logical conclusions. (Required) 4. Ability to work with competing deadlines, meet fixed deadlines, manage multiple assignments, perform effectively with a fluctuating workload, adapt to revised priorities, and follow through tasks to completion with accuracy and attention to detail independently or with minimal supervision. (Required) 5. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information, as well as handle confidential or sensitive matters appropriately and in compliance with UCLA policy, the UCLA Institutional Review Board (IRB), and federal research guidelines. (Required) 6. Strong ability to quickly learn and use new and unfamiliar computer systems, programs and online programs. (Required) 7. Excellent skills in oral and written English communication, with demonstrated working knowledge and experience in writing or contributing to the writing of educational research reports, proposals, research briefs, presentations, and/or other related documents. (Required) 8. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with, establish, and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff, leadership, students, alumni, vendors, visitors and the public, and to maintain composure, exercise sound judgement, diplomacy, and negotiation when responding to issues/concerns, and/or when confronted with difficult situations. (Required) 9. Bachelor?s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Education, or related field. (Preferred) 10. Advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Publisher, and Project), Google Suite, Zoom and/or other teleconferencing/webinar platforms, Adobe Premiere and Photoshop or other video and still image editing software, website programming/management software, and Social Media Platforms. (Preferred) 11. Experience developing innovative solutions to meet program goals, assess outcomes, and use data analysis to make sound recommendations for future initiatives.
