Academic Administrator II University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF10918 The Academic Administrator at the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies (the ‘Center’), housed within the UCLA International Institute, will serve as the Nazarian Center’s chief administrative officer, manager of its academic activities and supervisor of Center staff. The individual will also participate in academic activities, including teaching, commensurate with his/her/their academic background and expertise. The Academic Administrator (‘AA’) will report to the Director of the Center and serve as a key partner in developing and implementing the Center’s public programs, research activities, fundraising, and teaching plans. The AA will work to strengthen the center’s presence at UCLA, in Los Angeles and in the larger Israel Studies academic network around the world. Position Duties Instruction Teach one course per year in the Academic Administrator’s field of expertise Work with the International Institute IDP’s and departments across the campus to list courses related to modern Israel for the Israel Studies Minor, to be taught by visiting faculty, lecturers and postdoctoral fellows. Assist visiting instructors to develop courses that will have broad appeal to departments and undergraduate students. Program and Research Administration Support the Center Director’s efforts to develop and organize the Center’s programs for the campus and broader community; participate in programs as a moderator or speaker when appropriate as determined by the Center Director. Support the Center Director’s efforts to strengthen the Center’s relationships with faculty and administrators from across campus. Serve as managing editor of the Center’s bi-annual research publication, ‘Currents-Briefs on Contemporary Israel’. Coordinate and oversee the Center’s research seminar series for faculty and graduate students to present research work-in-progress related to modern Israel. Review grant applications and make recommendations for funding to faculty leadership. Create new academic partnerships through networking with scholars with an interest in Israel in a variety of disciplines, and with policy/think tank organizations in Israel and around the world. Supervise Center staff, including Communications Manager and Center Administrator/Graphic Designer. Budget Management Plan and oversee the Center’s annual budget, working with the Fund Manager in the International Institute. Oversee financial reports for Community Board Meetings and Year-end Reports. Community Relations Support the Center’s community leadership, serving as the primary point of contact with the Center and providing them with information about Center activities. Create new public partnerships for the Center through outreach to local community organizations. In collaboration with the Center director and the UCLA Development Office, conduct fundraising for the Center (e.g., for grants and individual major gifts).
