Systems Engineer Space Sensing Program Office

LOCATION: El Segundo, CA
JOB STATUS: Full-time
CLEARANCE: TS with SCI eligibility
TRAVEL: As Needed
SALARY: $155,000 – $175,000

Astrion is seeking a seasoned Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Space Sensing Program Office.

The Space Sensing Program Office is part of the Space Systems Command (SSC) and is responsible for delivering space-based missile warning, tracking, and defense capabilities, as well as space-based environmental monitoring that directly support the warfighter’s ability to deter, defend, and win.

You will Perform engineering duties in designing, constructing, and testing spacecraft payloads and ground systems. May conduct basic and applied research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to design and manufacture. May recommend improvements in testing equipment and techniques.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Master’s degree in engineering, or related technical field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree requirement: 12 years of work experience may be substituted for a master’s degree; OR Bachelor’s Degree plus 8 years of work experience may be substituted for a master’s degree.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience with government programs and processes to include a working level knowledge of acquisition, requirements generation, integration, test and evaluation.
  • Must have an active and transferrable DoD security clearance with current investigation at TS with SCI eligibility. Must be able to maintain the required clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Familiarity with Space System Command (Formerly Space and Missile Systems Center)
  • Excellent and detail-oriented organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills
  • Advanced-level competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate Directorate programs’ solicitation technical documentation, System Engineering Plan (SEP), Integrated Master Plan (IMP), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and deliverables for compliance with applicable Space Systems Command policies, guidance, and instruction.
  • Ensure consistency in the implementation of acquisitions strategy, technical approach and requirements, acquisition policy and guidance, milestones, forecasts, and risk assessment. The evaluation shall ensure realism in achieving a product suitable for the warfighter within cost, schedule, and performance constraints.
  • Collect, analyze, store, and distribute acquisition “lessons learned” from SSC and other organizations to promote increased efficiencies, timeliness, and effectiveness in the Directorate.
  • Assess whether the acquisition plans, acquisition strategies, capability documents, and solicitation documents are accurately reflected in the technical aspects of the programs.
  • Analyze space and ground system program plans, current development, test and evaluation, upgrades, operations and sustainment, and program requirements in compliance with applicable Department of Defense, Department of the Air Force and SSC instructions.
  • Review Program Contractor and Government T&E planning documentation (e.g., requirements, plans, schedule) and presentations (e.g., test reviews, readiness reviews) to confirm all work required to successfully complete test and evaluation is captured and reported accurately in the requirements, plans, schedule, etc, including the methods of analysis, limitations of scope, adherence to plan, references to other work, and conclusions drawn.
  • Ensure contract technical requirements are performed and in compliance with for space, payload, and ground hardware.
  • Monitor, identify, document and report, for compliance with technical discrepancies between manufacturing and developmental processes being utilized and piece parts being used or being planned for use relating to quality assurance tasks (e.g., inspection planning and execution, in-process controls, workmanship requirements definition, failure analysis, parts de-rating, piece-part controls and methodologies, materials management, trade studies, tooling and facilities assessments, quality management planning and execution, subcontractor management, design reviews, risk management, proposal evaluations, waiver/deviation requests, vendor reviews, build or test article disposition, deficiency disposition and corrective actions).
  • Participate in formal program reviews. Review entrance and exit criteria and ensure that Contractor meets system requirements.
  • Provide findings and updates to Space Sensing leadership and assist with briefings up the leadership chain.
