Space Systems Engineer

LOCATION: El Segundo, CA

JOB STATUS: Full-time
SALARY: $180k-$224k

CLEARANCE: TS w/SCI eligibility

CERTIFICATION: N/A

TRAVEL: 10%

Astrion is seeking an experienced Space Systems Engineer to join the Space Support to Theater Team (S2T2) under the Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO), United States Space Force (USSF), Space Systems Command (SSC), Los Angeles AFB. This critical role requires advancing, integrating, and delivering system-of-systems space capabilities that support national security objectives. This is a unique opportunity to help define the future of space operations-shaping enterprise requirements, performing mission engineering, and driving integration across USSF mission portfolios.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in STEM field (Engineering, Physics, Earth Science, Mathematics, Operations Analysis, or related field)
  • 8+ years of experience in the design, development, and deployment of space systems within the USSF or DoD mission space
  • Strong foundation in systems engineering, mission analysis, and system-of-systems integration
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams of government, SETA, FFRDC, and contractor personnel
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; familiarity with JIRA/Confluence
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to brief complex technical topics to senior decision-makers
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Proficiency with JIRA/Confluence

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and integration of cutting-edge space capabilities across current and future systems
  • Perform mission engineering analysis and evaluate Design Reference Missions (DRM) for risks, issues, and gaps opportunities (RIGs/RIGOs)
  • Conduct system-level capability reviews and recommend solutions to close mission-critical gaps
  • Support war room planning, capability epoch development, and kill chain assessments to inform enterprise decisions
  • Develop enterprise requirements for high-priority space programs
  • Assess policy and technical drivers impacting system design, integration, and interoperability
  • Collaborate with SWAC, S2 / S4 / S6, Space Command, CCIB, and PEO offices to deliver integrated SATCOM, PNT, Missile Warning, TacISR, Launch, and BMC3 solutions
  • Prepare and present briefings, white papers, and strategic roadmaps to senior leadership
