2024-25: Part-time Lecturer Focusing on Afro-Latina/o Experiences

The UCLA Cesar E. Chavez Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies invites applications for a part-time lecturer to teach an interdisciplinary course in Chicana/o and Central America Studies during the Spring 2025 quarter (April 1 – June 30, 2025).

Salary commensurate with applicant qualifications and experience; percentage of appointment commensurate with teaching load. See Table 15 Unit 18 Faculty Pre-Six – AY (ucop.edu) for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $68,247 – $83,936.

The department is seeking a candidate who specializes in issues pertaining to Afro-Latina/o experience in the U.S. through exploration of historical roots and contemporary forms, and discussion of themes that include feminism, politics, culture, music, and identities.

As the fastest growing department in the Division of Social Sciences at UCLA, Chicana/o and Central American Studies reflects not just the growth of UCLA’s Chicano/Latino student body, but also more seismic demographic changes, in Los Angeles, California, and the nation. The department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies strives to fortify the connection between UCLA and its surrounding urban context and chosen lecturer candidates will assist in these efforts with their ability to integrate their overlapping commitments to academic success, teaching excellence, and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent expertise in their field of specialization and have at least one year’s teaching experience at the college level.
