Department Summary

The Center for Education Innovation & Learning in the Sciences (CEILS) serves as a clearinghouse for the education tools and assessment resources instructors need to engage in effective, validated teaching practices that promote student learning, create inclusive and culturally responsive classrooms, and retain students in Life and Physical Sciences majors. CEILS fosters the professional development and training of faculty who wish to incorporate evidence-based teaching approaches into their courses. CEILS also assists with the design and conduct of assessments needed to develop successful grant proposals that will fund curricular innovations.
Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of the Learning Assistant (LA) Program, the Administrative Assistant will be responsible for managing the many logistical aspects of the LA program. As the LA Program Admin Support, the incumbent will provide general administrative support to the LA Program Director, students, and Teaching Assistants (TAs).

Qualifications

  • 1. Demonstrated skill in providing clerical and administrative support in an undergraduate assistant program, ideally a formal Learning Assistant program. (Required)
  • 2. Ability to speak and interact effectively with persons from various social, cultural, economic and educational backgounds and person with disabilities. (Required)
  • 3. Ability to communicate program information and answer questions, accurately and effective to students, TAs, faculty and other individuals, in person and over telephone and via email. (Required)
  • 4. Ability to communicate effectively using appropriate grammar and vocabulary. Skill in writing clear, concise, logical and grammatically correct forms and correspondence. (Required)
  • 5. Good organizational skills with experience in managing multiple projects efficiently. (Required)
  • 6. Writing, drafting, editing and proofreadking skills to prepare concise, logical, grammatically correct correspondence. (Required)
  • 7. Evidence of ability to manage tasks independently and maintain high standars in work quality. (Required)
  • 8. Demonstrated skill in using word processing and editing software and web-based formats, specifically the creation of google forms and managing google docs in the pageless format. (Required)
  • 9. Ability to handle confidential material with discretion. Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with employees and supervisors on sensitive matters. Understanding the importance of keeping sensitive information confidential. (Required)
  • 10. Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload changes in assignment, frequent interruptions, and/or pressures of deadlines. (Required)
  • 11. Ability to effectively manage any conflicts arise among students, TAs, and/or faculty. (Required)
  • 12. Skill in systematically organizing materials and information to effectively accomplish duties and tasks. (Required)
