The Boeing Safety, Security & Airworthiness (SS&A) organization is looking for an Experienced  or Senior Level Systems Safety Engineer to join the Aviation Safety Team within Enterprise Safety and Mission Assurance. This position is based in Seal Beach, CA.

As an Airplane Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for working cross-functionally to conduct safety analyses across development, modification, and operation phases of the product lifecycle. We are looking for innovative, enthusiastic, and highly collaborative individuals with unlimited curiosity and a passion for diving into design architecture details. The role offers the opportunity to perform safety analysis at the component, system, and airplane levels across a variety of functional disciplines, including Avionics, Mechanical, Environmental, Electrical, and Propulsion. Our objectives are achieved through independent research, teamwork, creative thinking, and meticulous attention to detail.

A successful candidate will have a strong engineering background and understanding of statistical methods, and will be adept at evaluating system architectures to determine the consequences of failures, malfunctions, and defects. They will excel at collaborating with Design Engineers to help create a robust design. You will play a key role in supporting the continued safe operation of today’s commercial fleet and in developing the next generation of commercial aircraft, contributing to work where diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conducts system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact.
  • Identifies safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures.
  • Performs or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements.
  • Creates and maintains aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes.
  • Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
  • Develops and maintains safety and corrective action plans. Assists with demonstrating safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators.
  • Ensures mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 3 or more years of experience in aerospace systems engineering
  • 1 or more years of experience in System Safety Analysis

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with engineering/scientific principles with particular emphasis on the aeronautical, mechanical, and electrical system disciplines
  • Experience with aircraft systems, components, and functions (e.g., Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Avionics, Fuels, etc.) or Systems Integration
  • Experience gathering, manipulating, and analyzing large amounts of data
  • Experience in assessing and documenting analysis to show compliance
  • Experience with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 25.1309
  • Experience with Aerospace Recommended Practices (ARP) ARP4754 and ARP4761
  • Experience with Continued Operational Safety Process (COSP) and reporting criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

  • Summary pay range for Mid-Level (Level 3): $104,550 – $141,450

  • Summary pay range for Senior Level (Level 4): $128,350 – $173,650
