Archaeology Lecture Position Laboratory:Paleoethnobotany Spring 2025 (M205A) University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF10196 Paleoethnobotany, also known as archaeobotany, is a subdiscipline of archaeology. It investigates plants-human interactions and how plants shaped cultures. It covers topics such as how people used plants in their food, crafts, clothing, medicine and rituals. This class combines methods and theory of paleoethnobotany including botany, ecology, and archaeology to investigate cultural uses of plants. In this course, discussion will focus on major issues in paleoethnobotany from preservation, analytical methods, to sampling and collection, to interpretation. This class is divided into lecture and hands-on lab techniques for identification of archaeological plant remains. The spring quarter schedule is March 26 – June 13. Archaeology Laboratory: Paleoethnobotany: M205A The appointment will be at the lecturer level and will be locatediat our facilities at UCLA Cotsen Institute of Archaeology. Duties include preparation and delivery of lectures and laboratory practical sessions. Candidates should hold a graduate degree in archaeology or closely related field from a recognized academic institution. preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in both teaching and research in palaeoethnobotany.
