Assistant Director of Development, Major Gifts The Assistant Director of Development is a mission-driven, detail-oriented professional who supports the work of the Major Gifts and Individual Giving teams. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Assistant Director plays a vital role in strengthening donor engagement and advancing the University’s philanthropic priorities. The Assistant Director will manage giving society marketing and stewardship efforts, coordinate donor visit scheduling for senior development officers, assist with budget tracking and expense processing, conduct donor research and list preparation, and independently carry out discovery visits to identify new prospects for leadership annual giving and major gift cultivation. Work Location: Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles). Remote work available 1-2 days per week. Start Date: Immediately Applications Deadline: Open until filled Annual Salary Rate Range: $77,254.92- $78,000.00 Monthly Salary Rate: $6,437.91-$6,500.00 Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate’s qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Major Gifts and Donor Engagement Support (35%) Prepares donor briefings, call memos, and follow-up materials for meetings. Conducts donor and prospect research to support cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies. Maintains donor contact reports, manage portfolio updates, and support moves management processes in Raiser’s Edge NXT. Schedules and coordinate donor visits, travel logistics, and cultivation activities for the Director of Development and Assistant Vice President. Conducts discovery visits with leadership annual giving and emerging major gift prospects to assess capacity and interest. 2. Giving Societies and Stewardship (35%) Manages and executes the marketing, recognition, and stewardship of giving societies, including the Athenian Circle, Heritage Society, Brady Leadership Society, Le Puy Society while liaising with Communications on branding. Drafts stewardship communications for giving societies and partner with Advancement Services and Communications on production and distribution. Maintains accurate giving society rosters, work with Director of Development to coordinate renewals, and ensure donor benefits and acknowledgements are fulfilled as promised. Supports giving society presence and recognition at University and advancement events. 3. Budget and Operational Coordination (10%) Tracks and reconciles development-related expenses and assistant in monitoring annual giving and major gifts budget. Processes reimbursements, check requests, and other financial documentation in accordance with University policy. Assists in the preparation of fundraising reports and other reports as needed. 4. Administrative and Cross-Team Collaboration (20%) Collaborates with colleagues across Annual Giving, Institutional Giving, Alumnae Relations, Communications, and University Events to ensure a cohesive donor experience. Assists with planning and execution of donor engagement events and occasionally regional receptions. Contributes to special initiatives and cross-functional projects that enhance fundraising operations and donor relations. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Perform other duties, as assigned. Job Requirements: Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM systems (e.g., RENXT, GiveCampus) strongly preferred Abilities and Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Comfort engaging with donors and conducting donor meetings in person and via phone or video conference. Commitment to the mission of Mount Saint Mary’s University and a desire to grow within the development profession. Experience conducting discovery visits or qualifying donor prospects preferred. Familiarity with giving society operations and donor stewardship best practices preferred. Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field such as nonprofit management, business, communications, or public relations. Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, advancement services, or event coordination.
