Associate Project Scientist University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF10130 Associate Project Scientist (JPF10130) | 01/27/2025 The UCLA Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) invites applications for a position of Associate Project Scientist whose research will focus on boundary layer aerosol/cloud/precipitation dynamics/microphysics and the global statistics of deep convection and associated precipitation. The research includes the following activities: Formulate hypotheses regarding cold pool dynamics, formation mechanisms, and measurement strategies, and test them with surface-based in-situ and remote sensing instruments (doppler lidar, Ka-radar, surface stations, radiosondes, etc.) Edit and execute fine-scale atmospheric models (CM1) and single column models for use in aerosol scavenging experiments Perform statistical analyses of CloudSat reflectivity factors, precipitation flags, and cloud classifications for comparison with kilometer-scale global models and Earth system models Develop techniques to retrieve nighttime low-cloud properties (cloud droplet concentration, cloud optical depth, effective radius) using the Day-Night Band from VIIRS instruments To apply, please visit: https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF10130 The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
