Position Summary

In partnership with Museum leadership and the Assistant Director, Museum Events, this position is responsible for coordinating the museums robust corporate rental program along with support for fundraising events for Museum patrons and potential funders, that yield more than $3.5 million each year. This position advances the Hammer Museum’s mission through fundraising as it relates to special events and targeted philanthropic corporate sponsorships and partnerships. This includes two major annual fundraising events: Gala in the Garden and K.A.M.P. (Kids Art Museum Project). Additionally, provides support to openings, dinners, and receptions. This position supports a comprehensive fundraising event plan to cultivate and secure support for the Hammer’s annual operations, with an emphasis on drafting correspondence, conducting research, coordinating meetings and events, and communicating with third-parties such as event sponsors, chairs, in-kind partners, vendors, and contractors. Works closely with Assistant Director, Museum Events and Development Department to manage the event plan and prepare regular status reports to keep all involved apprised of event activity and key points of coordination. This position will also be responsible for tracking pledges and gifts associated with the events and acting as a liaison with other departments (communications, curatorial, operations, etc.) as their activities relate to Events. The primary role for this position will be to cultivate and grow the museum ambitious $500,000 rental program. The individual will respond to all inquiries in a timely fashion and work both internally and externally to ensure all protocols and policies are carefully followed.

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Background and passion for contemporary art, museums, culture, and social change. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to financially manage events including the ability to plan, budget, analyze, and respond to variances impacting the financial plan; Excellent analytical and organizational skills. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in communicating professionally and effectively with all levels of staff to respond to needs, determine priorities, and manage expectations. (Required)
  • Strong communication skills to express, both orally and in writing, the mission of the Museum. Ability to make oral group presentations to provide information. (Required)
  • Interpersonal skill in negotiating, exchanging ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs and/or arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions or solutions. (Required)
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with Museum and University staff; community leaders; volunteers; vendors; donors; sponsors and corporate members. (Required)
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with a wide variety of people. (Required)
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust heavy workload, manage a variety of tasks, and meet various deadlines with changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and conflicting deadlines. (Required)
  • Ability to develop robust, effective, and clear event timelines with accompanying visual aids that speak to ranges of skills, experience and education levels. (Required)
  • Fluency using tools to communicate the details and organization of events; such as FileMaker Pro and Illustrator. (Required)
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated skill as part of a multi-million events and corporate member fundraising program (Required)
  • A successful record of demonstrable accomplishments in envisioning, implementing and managing fundraising events and corporate membership programs within a competitive philanthropic environment. (Required)
  • Robust understanding of regional and national fundraising events and corporate membership programs for arts, culture, education, social change, and other areas that connect with Hammer’s mission, exhibitions, and programs. (Required)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related area and/or equivalent combination of education and experience/training (Required)
