Position Description: LAMC is looking for a highly motivated and experienced instructor to teach Culinary Arts and serve as the Culinary Arts Instructor Full Time Limited for Spring of 2026. Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree and two years of verifiable industry experience; Or Associate’s degree and six years of verifiable industry experience; And Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled, and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff and students. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS : Health: A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant’s expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment. Eligibility Requirement: COVID 19 VACCINATION Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee’s Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Desirable Qualifications: Experience in Front and Back of the House Hotel/Restaurant Operations, Food and Beverage Management. Experience as General Manager, or Executive Chef of Hotel or Restaurant Kitchen. Experience in managing and leading large scale Catering Events. Educational Background Specific to the Hospitality/Culinary Industry. Experience in training or formal teaching in industry and/or higher education. Be Serve Safe Certified and Serve Safe Proctor. Proven record training food service employees (on the job training). Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Fundamental knowledge of the foundations of cooking. Extensive knowledge and application of international cuisine and cooking. Butchery skills with expertise in butchering and fabrication of primal cuts. Proficiency in a la minute and batch cookery. Proficiency in principles of baking and patisserie. Personal characteristics necessary for successful teaching of community college students, including judgment, qualities of leadership, emotional stability, team player, and educational perspective. Strong understanding of food service cost controls, including budgeting, inventory management, and waste reduction. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, special needs, and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff, and students. Performs other related duties as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities: This position requires a commitment to the college of over 30 hours per week including over 21 hours of teaching. Evening, weekend, offsite classes may be scheduled based on the department’s needs. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Teach a variety of courses in Culinary Arts specifically catering courses and other courses as assigned and scheduled. (The teaching schedule may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. It may include multiple modalities such as online, hybrid, synchronous, or in-person. It may include classes at alternate sites, such as community based courses, LA County Probation system or other offsite partnerships) Maintain, review, and submit student enrollment and attendance data in a timely manner following department, college, and district guidelines. Establish and convene industry advisories, promote business and community partnerships to enhance program resources and job placement for students. Attend all required meetings and work effectively with colleagues. Develop and revise syllabi, curriculum, and Student/Program Learning Outcomes (SLOs), and Program Reviews. Collaborate with faculty members to develop student and program learning outcomes. Provides direct instruction and coaching to students in catering courses and catering operations, event planning, customer service, and business management. Integrates principles of cost control, budgeting, menu planning, food safety, and marketing into the catering curriculum. Coordinates course schedules, event assignments, and instructional materials to align classroom learning with live catering opportunities. Supervises and mentors students during live catering events, ensuring professional standards and safety procedures are maintained. Retain and motivate students by engaging them in the learning process using a variety of teaching methods, including the use of computers and other technologies to provide high-quality classroom instruction. Engage in outcomes assessment dialogue and changes to improve culinary program. Create instructional materials for related subjects using course management systems (Canvas) and other industry related software. Prepare for and effectively present lecture courses. Demonstrate and execute lesson plans and related handout materials. Perform other duties as assigned. Salary and Benefits : Salary ranges from $76,960 – $143,000 for the 10-month academic year. The selected candidate will be allocated within the salary range upon evaluation by the LACCD Academic Personnel Unit. The doctoral differential is $4,870 per academic year.
