AY26 – Nursing Instructor, Psychiatric/Mental Health Emphasis LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT P ROFESSIONAL O PPORTUNITIES LOS ANGELES PIERCE COLLEGE AY26 NURSING INSTRUCTOR, Psychiatric/Mental Health Probationary Tenure Track C Basis Closing Date: September 16, 2025 DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Located on about 426 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque beauty of its rolling hills. Founded in 1947, Pierce College is a growing two-year public institution with more than 100 disciplines being taught to more than 20,500 students each semester and enjoys one of the highest transfer performances in Southern California. Seen as a leader statewide and nationally, LAPC is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a full-time, tenure track position in the Nursing Department starting with the Fall 2025 semester. POSITION: LAPC Department of Nursing is seeking to fill a full-time tenure track position with emphasis in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing , to begin Fall 2025. This position involves both theory and clinical teaching responsibilities. DEPARTMENT: LAPC offers an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program. The mission of the program is to educate students to become entry level Registered Nursing practitioners. The program curriculum is based upon National League of Nursing (NLN) Competencies Model, Quality Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) and the Nursing Process. Students are provided with clinical experience concurrently with classroom instruction. The program is affiliated with local hospitals and other health agencies where students administer direct nursing care to patients under the supervision of nursing faculty. The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) at Los Angeles Pierce College is accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CABRN). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at LAPC includes lower division courses. Faculty members at LAPC are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and exciting learning environments. The successful candidate will be assigned a variety of courses each semester to meet the 15-hour standard teaching load. Daytime, evening, online, weekend, and dual enrollment classes may be included in this assignment based on department needs. The teaching obligation is based upon a 10-month calendar. Additional summer and winter assignments may be available. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Teach courses in nursing in accordance with established course outline; Participate in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes (SLO’s) and program learning outcomes (PLO’s); Maintain scheduled office hours for student contact in accordance with the LACCD/AFT 1521 contract; Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline; Maintain accurate records (e.g., grades, attendance, class exclusions, etc.) and submit records in accordance to district policy and board rules; Collaborate within the department, college, local high schools and industry partners; Devote required time, in accordance to faculty contract, to campus-based responsibilities (committees, accreditation, etc.); Participate in required program planning and annual program review; Work collegially with members of the department, classified staff, students, faculty and administrators to maintain professional conduct and ethics, and foster a professional working environment; Development and implementing new and updated program and course curricula, as well as updating course materials and the course outlines of record for both transfer and CE courses; Complete and submit course documents in accordance with LACCD policies; assume departmental duties as assigned by the chairperson (e.g., participate in program review, plan and attend advisory meetings, revise course outlines, assist with student advisement, and participate actively on campus committees; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Nursing; OR Bachelor’s degree in Nursing AND Master’s in Health Education or Health Science; OR the equivalent OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher. The minimum qualifications as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher: 1.At least one year of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five years in Medical-Surgical Nursing area; o Minimum one year continuous full time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in med/surg; OR o Minimum one year teaching experience (two academic semesters or three quarters) of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in med/surg or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency and completion of at least one year of experience teaching courses related to med/surg or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing. A current, valid California Registered Nurse License; Experience in Psychiatric/Mental Health patient care and eligibility for California Board of Registered Nursing approval as an instructor in Psychiatric/Mental Health nursing; Clinical lab instructors must maintain clinical health requirements as prescribed by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CABRN) and clinical facilities including but not limited to: o Current BLS; o LA County Fire Training (FIRE CARD); o Immunizations; o Current annual TB screening; Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff and students. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant’s expense prior to employment. Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee’s Policy 2900, LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status or have an approved exemption in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of a strong academic record from an accredited institution and nursing program. Exhibit knowledge of current nursing theory and clinical practice in the subject/specialty area to be taught; Experience teaching psychiatric/mental health nursing in a community college or university; Possess the ability to assume responsibility and accountability for instruction, evaluation of students, and planning and implementing curriculum content in the content area; Demonstrate a commitment to student success; Evidence of experience in organizing and utilizing alternative settings to acute hospital care in teaching clinical lab; Demonstrate the understanding of, or have experience in, the use of student learning outcomes (SLO’s) in promoting student success; Evidence a commitment to collegiality within the instructional environment by interacting effectively with colleagues and maintaining active participation in departmental meetings and committees; SALARY AND BEBEFITS The current starting range is from $74,500 to $138,430 for the 10-month academic year depending on educational preparation and professional experience. The doctoral differential is $4710 per academic year. The District offers an excellent benefit package including medical, vision, and dental to the employee and eligible dependents.
