Description
Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, provides basic patient care to a group of assigned patients. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patent’s age. Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization. Applies good interpersonal and communication process utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve organizational service goals of customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable to the licensed nurses, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager and/or Orthopedic Service Line Director.
- Demonstrates and promotes compliance to infection control, legal, and safety standards.
- Displays professional commitment and supports the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers by maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
- Organizes and prioritizes care considering patient needs and preferences, module activities, and other commitments.
- Performs basic patient care activities in a timely manner according to hospital policy and procedures including taking vital signs, assisting with meals, enemas, catheter care, hygiene measures, positioning/moving patients, specimen collection, application of restraints and treatments/tasks.
- Provides care with sensitivity to the cultural needs of patients and with regard to their rights and privacy.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the current condition of the patient and recognizes situations needing nursing supervision.
- Answers call lights in a timely manner.
- Responsible for understanding and participating in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, performance improvement, and quality planning activities.
- Utilizing the plan of care, the CNA assists the license nurse in data collection and documents appropriately to hospital standards.
