Incumbent perform the full range of cardiac diagnostic ultrasound procedures and the more complex specialized procedures on adult and pediatric patients. This includes M-mode, 2 & 3 dimensional, color Doppler, pulsed Doppler, continuous wave Doppler, transesophageal echo, pharmacological and exercise stress echo, Holter monitors and ECGs. Recognizes and describes abnormal findings and tailors the procedure to provide a comprehensive exam. The cardiac sonographer makes the decision as to when an echo contrast agent &/or agitated saline injections according to the CVC policy. Will prepare and position patients, adjust equipment to best demonstrate area of interest, operate various stationary and portable equipment and imaging systems. Will rotate shifts and assignments as needed, including after hour on-call. The Sr. Ultrasound Technologist assists in the training of fellows and students as assigned. Also, this position will require traveling between all cardiology off-sites clinics where procedures are being performed. Provides consultation to areas outside the department where work unit procedures are performed and serves as a resource to resolve problems as they occur in the work unit 10% CLIN_Provides accurate theoretical and practical instruction to resident physicians, US students and staff sonographers 10% CLIN_ Performs procedural due diligence to ensure images are processed and archived and the Cardiology PACS /EMR systems are updated with accurate information as it relates to the patient’s medical record and billing 15% CLIN_ Monitors patients, diagnostic procedures, and diagnostic equipment making appropriate adjustments to ensure optimal results. Also, monitors the condition of the patient during the procedure and reports any changes to the appropriate members of the health care team 15% CLIN_ Effectively performs routine and complex ultrasound procedures ensuring optimal imaging. Sets parameters in accordance with established protocols or physician orders. Assist with special procedures and the care of the patient within scope of licensure. Assist with procedural documentation and ensures timely and accurate test results. 20% CLIN_ Effectively manages patients during procedures. Positions patients as necessary to ensure accurate testing in consideration of age. Coordinates patient requirements during diagnostic procedures and/or transportation to ensure patient safety. Effectively determines patient needs based on age-specific criteria. Maintains a sterile/clean environment and ensures effective PPE for each patient. 15% CLIN _Prepares equipment and supplies for procedures in an organized and timely manner. Accurately pulls non-narcotic medications from the locked cabinet &/or Pyxis and prepares (but does not administer) medications to be used during diagnostic testing. Required Qualifications: Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Must possess A.R.D.M.S. and/or CCI Certification Must have two years experience in cardiac ultrasound Must have two years experience in adult echocardiology Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Ability to regularly travel locally to Ambulatory Practice off-site locations Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System Preferred Qualifications: Registered in pediatric echocardiography – RDCS Must have two years of college with emphasis in Allied Health Sciences, preferably Diagnostic Medical Sonography Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms Licenses and Certifications: BLS (Required) Conditions of Employment: The University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment for the entire UCI community.
